Evolution remains controversial in North America, especially the United States, due to the large role religion still plays in American society. Approximately 80% of Americans identify as Christian, and it is difficult for many to reconcile evolution with their religious beliefs in Creationism. While some believe God could have used evolution as His method for creation, meshing the two concepts is challenging. As long as religion heavily influences American culture, evolution will likely continue to be debated.
