In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
Urban drama
 It is an independent British film that includes teenagers as the
main characters. Followed conventional British multicultural
characters. Asian girl, black girl and black man.
 This is similar to Kidulthood and Adulthood where there is a
 Inspiration of location from Sket - Rowley way
 narrative typical - prostitution however it is implicit compared to
Sket and adulthood
 The film involves drugs, crime and prostitution. – similar to ill
manors, sket etc.
 The whores in Urban drama films are normally white females
however we chose to challenge the conventions by making a
black teenage girl play as the whore.
Title conventions
We challenged the conventions of title sequences by adding the
two main characters’ names before the title. We understand that
the sequences of titles follow a strict order however we found some
films that have challenged the conventions of title sequences. One
example is ‘SKYFALL' this film has challenged the conventions and
placed the title after Daniel Craig’s name. His name appeared after
the production and distribution icons but before the title. This is
because he is a famous actor and his name would sell. This is
because he has got many fans that would pay to watch him in a
film and not necessarily want to watch the film and therefore by
putting his name first the film would sell. Another example is 'The
Hunger Games: Catching Fire' a teen film which also challenges
the title conventions by putting both Jennifer Lawrence and Josh
Hutcherson’s names before the title. This is because they are both
famous actors and therefore they appeal to teenage girls and boys
and makes the film sell.
