What is a title sequence:
By definition a title sequence is the
method by which films present their
title, key production and cast
members, utilizing conceptual visuals
and sound. It typically includes (or
begins) the text of the opening credits
Purposes of Title Sequence:
• To introduce the setting + location
• Introduce the film genre
• Set the tone
• Introduce the feeling of the
characters
• Credit people who made the film
• Engage the audience

Conventions are important as they allow a plot to be

5. Comparison - Gone Girl
• In the gone girl title sequence, the credits fade from black to white
and are in the font style of futura, whilst a voice narrates in the
background.
• We took inspiration from Gone Girl and went with the futura font,
excluding the fade in and out of the title, also excluding the narrative.
Our title sequence followed the convention order whilst Gone Girl
diverted slightly.

6. Macro and Micro Conventions of the film
opening in Gone Girl
Macro
Storyline: The plot isn't clear from the start
but you do get the sense that it's about a
husband that has lost his wife.
Key themes: love, manipulation and control
and mystery
Characters: We see the wife first after the
IDENTS then the husband is shown standing
outside a house.
Social Class: Upper middle class
Micro
Camera: The first few shots were all still shots
then it used a pan over landscapes. The camera
didn't move much and i believe this to be
effective as it adds to the mystery of it all.
Editing: The straight cuts between the shots were
very quick and little animation was used in this,
it was only used for the title and credit.
Sound: The music was very consistent, there was
very little diegetic sound throughout the title
sequence as it was mostly music. towards the
end you are able to hear the ambient sound
surrounding the male character standing outside
the house.
Mis-en-scene: Dark looking locations, very plain
looking clothing
• Macro similarities
between our title
sequence and Gone Girl
are male and female
characters and the fact
that there's mystery.
• Micro similarities are
the straight cuts,
mysterious ambient
soundscape and the
Mis-En Scene. What I
mean by that is that
some of the shots are
dark and dimly lit to
purposefully add
effect.

7. Conclusion
• All in all I believe our title sequence achieved the conventional
aspects of a thriller as it included a creepy ambient soundscape, dark
and mysterious locations, tall strong looking male character,
vulnerable looking female character,
