3. Childhood When she was a child she didn’t have a lot of friends to play with so she was normally learning. This also caused Her Majesty to be closer to her parents. After her half brother died she became the heiress apparent which allowed her to become the princess.
6. Why did the Royal Family move? Her Majesty had wanted to remain in the Netherlands but the Royal Family sailed to London. This was chosen because the Dutch Royal Family needed to be in the most safe position incase something happened.
8. During the War There were strains between Queen Wilhelmina and the Dutch government but worldwide everybody considered her greatly. To keep spirits up Her Majesty would broadcast radio messages. While living in her country home she was almost killed by a bomb.
9. End of War As soon as the war had concluded Queen Wilhelmina chose to live at a mansion in the Hague. Her Majesty would ride on her bicycle during the eight months she was there to encourage her people.

Father was already 63 when she was born. So he died in 1890, when she was only 10 years old. Her husband had no power in the marriage and she made sure that he did not get any attention. Her mother was known as the regent because she was a minor. Regent = head of state because the royalty is too young. On Queen Wilhelmina’s birthday families would display a vase with marigolds to show their loyalty to her. Remembered for her role in World War II.
Holland tries to remain neutral. 4. Queen Wilhelmina didn’t want to leave her people. They had to hide precious paintings, carpets, and other treasures . 5. I read a personal account where a girl’s mother bartered her sewing machine for half a loaf of bread so things had become a lot more desperate but the Germans knew they were on the way to loosing the war so they allowed some food to be given out by plane. Sadly though, people were not allowed to go outside and the food was picked up.
Royal Family: While they were in London during the war they earned great respect. They remained out of the country from 1940-1945.Her Majesty relocated to Britain, Canada, and the UK during the war.
Breskens was a city very protected.
Queen Wilhelmina would have the radio shows broadcasted later in the night so those in hiding could listen to them. Only a few of her body guards lost their life.
Hague was in Holland where most of the government lay.
