A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
Q3. Areas of development
1. Q3. Areas for development
What went wrong?
• I think that an area which we could of done better was the angle of the camera because none of
the clips that we filmed for the shot/reverse shots were in the exact same place. This caused some
of the shots to be more tilted than others. However, this could not be helped due to there being
only 2 of us. We were unable to always have someone controlling the camera however we did
have one of us on it when only one of us was in shot.
• Another area that we could improve is the location that we filmed because the place which we
filmed was not really suitable for the narrative. For instance in the storyboard we had the location in
a computer room while we actually filmed in a modern foreign languages classroom. However,
there was not much we could do about this problem because we only had a limited time to film, so
if we had spent too much time trying to find a computer room which was available for all the times
we wanted to film, we may of not had enough time to do everything we wanted and it may of
affected our editing time.
• Make the storyboard in detail but not too complicated so the background in the film does not look
completely different to what originally was in the storyboard.
• Finally, an area that we need to improve on is the background noise at the beginning of the film. I
think this because it takes away from the film and distracts the audience.
2. What would I have of done differently?
If it would of being possible I would have worked in a group of three so it would have been
easier to make sure the camera stayed at the same point and so there is always somebody
looking at who is in shot and the level of the the camera. Also working in a three would of
made it easier to do certain camera angles such as the 180 degree rule which is difficult
when both people are on screen.
Another thing I would of done differently is make the location more flexible when drawing
the storyboard. I think this because due to the limited amount of time we had to film,
having a background with computers may not be the best idea if computer rooms need to
be booked and can be difficult to get due to teachers needing it for their lessons.
Therefore I would draw a background that every classroom has so I have more choices of
places to film.
Finally, I would of lower the volume when I was running down the hall because near the
end of the clip voices of people in the social area can be heard which could alter the
audiences attention.
3. What I will avoid to do during the planning process for my main task.
I will make sure to plan the location of the film before I start to draw the storyboard because this
will make the storyboard and films location match and not different. I want to avoid having a
different location on the storyboard then what it is when the film because it will make it easier to
know the exact place the camera needs to be and help me organize the time which we need
to film and if we do it during school time on site or film some outside of school.
Make sure that everybody is available for when we are filming, everybody knows what time
we’re filming and where it is going to be filmed.
Give everyone their roles and what they need to do so we are prepared and do not have to
rush the filming due to having to tell somebody what they are doing. This will waste time which
could be used more productively.
Create a schedule so that everyone is aware on what we will be doing in the lesson and
everybody has something to do. I will do this so that we can produce something collectively
together of our best ability.
