This document provides instructions for an assignment where students must analyze parenting styles depicted in a TV show or film and how they influence children's behaviors. Students are asked to choose a media source, identify the parenting styles of characters, describe family relationships and how styles impacted children. They must also explain how knowledge of parenting styles can benefit their current or future work in early childhood education. The rubric evaluates students' demonstration of parenting style knowledge, analysis of influences, and use of this knowledge in their intended profession.

Instructions:
For this assignment, apply what you have learned about
parenting styles to a movie, TV family show, or a family you
know. The suggested TV show for this assignment is Modern
Family. You can find also find an alternate family in a TV show
or movie of your choosing.
Conduct research to learn more about the TV show or movie
you choose and include citations in APA format. See Resources

Conduct additional research on parenting styles to learn more
about the influence on children’s behaviors and how educators
can support families. Include citations in APA format.
After watching the movie or TV show, or reflecting on a family
you know, write a 2-3-page paper addressing the following:
Include the name of the movie/TV show or family and list the
characters or family members. Identify the parents and the
parenting style(s) they exhibited.
Demonstrate your knowledge of parenting styles from your
course materials by including specific examples of the parenting
styles you identified.
Include if the styles changed or stayed the same throughout the

Describe what you observed about the relationships within each
immediate family unit (include between both parents and
between the parents and children).
Describe how the parenting styles influenced children in the
movie/TV show or family.
Explain the importance of knowing parenting styles and how it
connects with your current or future work with children and

styles as an early childhood educator.

A detailed description of the relationships within each
immediate family unit and examples showing how the parenting

30% of total grade

An extensive, detailed explanation of the importance of having
a knowledge of parenting styles and how it connects with your
work with children and families. Includes a clear, detailed plan
to use your knowledge of parenting styles as an early childhood
professional.
