Cut through the stem end of the pumpkin with a sharp knife to cut out the top. Scrape out any seeds and pulp from the inside and save seeds if cooking later. Cut a face design into the pumpkin and push out the pieces, then place a candle inside for a lit jack-o-lantern.

2. Cut through the stem end of the
pumpkin along your outline with a
sharp knife or pumpkin-carving
tool. Use a back-and-forth cutting
motion to cut through the thick,
tough skin.
Scrape off any seeds or pulp.
(Note: cut inwards!)

3. Scoop out seeds and membrane
with hands or with a spoon. If
you want to cook the seeds later,
save them in a bag.

4. Cut the face of your pumpkin
(you can draw a design if you
want to). When finished, push
pieces out from the inside of the
pumpkin.

5. Put a candle inside!

6. Tip: For longer life, put the
pumpkin in water for a couple of
hours (or overnight). It will make
the pumpkin very firm.
Putting a little bleach in the water
will prevent your pumpkin from
prematurely molding by killing off
evil pumpkin germs.

7. You can put colored tissue paper
behind the pumpkin.
Try wax paper. This crates a
more blurry effect.
Try tin foil (on the back of the
pumpkin) for a metallic effect)
