1. PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE (PHN)
• Providing health care (preventive , promotive, curative and
rehabilitative) to all individuals , families and community in the
respective field.
• Training , supervising and guiding the health workers in the delivery
of health care services to community.
• Planning RCH including family planning programmes with health
workers.
• Follow-up services in school health / family health /family welfare
programmes.
• Assisting in implementation of national health programme.
2. • Carrying out supervisory functions of the home visits in the area covered
by the health workers.
• Co-ordinating the work of male and female health workers and other
personnel.
• Arranging in identification of the areas requiring study / research in the
community health nursing .

3. Public health nurse supervisor
• Public health nurse supervisor , guides and supervises the functions of
public health nurses , health workers , working in her assigned field . She is
responsible To District Public Health Nurse(DPHN) or District Public Health
Nursing Officer (DPHNO)for the provision ,supervision and improvement
of community health care. The other role and responsibility of Public
Health Nurse Supervisor.
• Assisting in determination of the philosophy and objectives of the
community health programmes.
• Providing leadership in the planning of total health care to all individuals,
families and community in her assigned area.
4. • Carrying out preventive , promotive ,curative and rehabilitative care.
• Assisting in development of the standard of health care with the accepted
philosophy, objectives and health policies.
• Assisting in the preparation of budget for the community health
department.
• Utilize the budget allotted to the department (community)
• Supervision and guidance of PHN /LHV/FHW/MHW working in her field.
• Organizing educational programmes for the community members
including school children , RCH group or other interested / targeted groups
in her area.
• Supervision of records / reports prepared by health workers working
under her jurisdiction.
• Assisting the DPHN /DPHNO for the preparation of job description and
assignment of responsibilities for other community health workers.
