The document discusses an assignment in cognitive psychology regarding the attentional blink phenomenon. Students are instructed to complete an online demonstration of attentional blink and read a research article on the topic. They then must write a 4-page paper analyzing how time between stimuli affects detecting the second target, when attentional blink can be eliminated, proposing other target types and how they may influence blink duration, discussing jobs impacted by blink and potential errors, and assessing a heads-up display design in terms of divided attention and blink. The paper will be graded on understanding and application of cognitive psychology concepts, as well as writing mechanics.
Assignment 2 Attentional BlinkThere are many stimuli in your en.docxsherni1
Assignment 2: Attentional Blink
There are many stimuli in your environment of which you are not aware. You use attention to filter out unimportant stimuli and focus on relevant stimuli. However, there are circumstances under which you cannot perceive stimuli, regardless of how hard you "pay attention." One situation is when visual stimuli are presented in quick succession. If the interval between the two stimuli is short enough, you do not perceive the second stimulus. This lapse in attention is known as attentional blink. In this assignment, you will experience the attentional blink for yourself and will also read about practical implications of the phenomenon.
Access the CogLab demonstrationAttentional Blink. Follow the instructions to complete the demonstration.
Read the following article:
· Livesey, E. J., Harris, I. M., & Harris, J. A. (2009). Attentional changes during implicit learning: Signal validity protects a target stimulus from the attentional blink. Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 35(2), 408-408-422. doi:10.1037/a0014525 (ProQuest Document ID: 614494049)
Using the experience from the CogLab demonstration and information from the article, write a paper that addresses the following:
· Explain how the attentional blink relates to attention. Analyze how the variation in time influences the probability of seeing the second target letter. Explain the circumstances under which the attentional blink can be eliminated.
· In the CogLab demonstration, letters were used as targets. The target used can influence the duration of one’s attentional blink and whether the attentional blink even occurs. Complete the following tasks:
· Propose at least two other targets that could be used to induce the attentional blink.
· Predict the effect each of your suggested targets would have on the duration of one’s attentional blink as compared to the CogLab activity you completed.
· Explain the reasoning behind your predictions.
· Present and discuss at least three occupations in which workers’ performance could be adversely affected by attentional blink. Identify and explain the types of problems or mistakes that might occur in such occupations due to the attentional blink.
· Several years ago, some vehicle models came with a heads-up display (HUD). Instead of looking down at a panel on the dashboard, speed, distance traveled, fuel level, and time appeared to be displayed over the hood of the car. Discuss this design in terms of divided attention and attentional blink. Do you think the design was a good idea?

BUILDING THE RIGHT CULTURE FOR THE REMOTE TEAM IN AMAZON
COMPANY IN UNITED STATES.
Introduction
The ability to work remotely, from anywhere in the world, is a potential boom for
businesses. It can help them recruit and retain employees and lower their costs by giving them
access to skilled workers who might otherwise price out of their markets. However, when
companies opt for remote work as their only option, they may find a workforce that does not
coordinate well due to differences in location or time zone. To build the right culture for remote
teams, the use of virtual workspaces can create a better work experience for everyone involved.
Objectives
This study investigates whether the right culture can be built remotely.
The specific purposes of this research are:
1. To determine what factors influence whether a remote team can build the right culture
for their organization.
2. To determine what factors influence whether a remote team can build the right culture
for their organization.
3. To determine how those factors affect the ability of the remote team to build the right
culture for their organization.
Research Problem
The main problem with this is that remote work requires communication between teams
across long distances, which means people need to be able to communicate frequently and quickly
(Davenport, 2013). If those conversations are happening over Slack or email instead of face-to-face
meetings and phone calls, then it is unlikely that team members will understand each other well

Arguments of DefinitionThese arguments are particularly powerful in that they help determine what something or someone is. Thus, they can result in inclusion or exclusion. They help us recognize that classifications change over time and are the result of cultural, social, and political forces.Definitions often serve group agendas while ignoring or attempting to silence others.Often evolve from daily life.
Arguments of DefinitionWe rely on definition for successful, efficient communication. As you have experienced with the Fact Paper, our ability to make an argument is limited when we cannot appeal to values.Contrary to the belief that values diminish the validity of an argument by rendering it mere opinion, values are a necessary part of the argument.Indeed, they are the very heart of an argument. Thus, evaluative terms are notoriously difficult to define.
Formal Definitions
(pp.200-201)Questions related to genus:Is assisting in suicide a crime? Is NASCAR a sport? Is rap poetry? What is an X [insert your own choice here]
Questions related to species:Is marijuana a relatively harmless drug or a dangerous, addictive one?Is Saudi Arabia an ally or an opponent of the USA?Is TV’s “Survivor” a reality show or a game show?Is X a Y or a Z [Insert your own topic}
Questions related to conditions:Should a woman be held to the same physical requirements as a man in order to join the military?Should everyone pay the same percentage of their income taxes regardless of their income? Are high scores on the SAT’s a fair condition for entrance into universities?Must X occur in order for Y? [Insert your topic]
Questions related to the fulfillment of conditions:Should academic scholarships count as taxable income?Should nontraditional educated experiences, such as semesters abroad and internships, count for college credit?Should X be counted as Y for the purposes of Z? [Insert your topic]
In summary, keep in mind that you can approach an argument of definition by:
Formulating a definition (What is X?): “Terrorism is any non-wartime act of violence undertaken for political gain.”Negative definition (Y is not X.): “Violence undertaken as part of a revolt against an oppressive regime is not terrorism.”Definition by Example (Y is/is not X): “The Irish Republican Army is/is not a terrorist organization.”
Other items to consider:Who is your specific audience? What are the counter-arguments to your proposed definition? In other words, anticipate oppositional stances. How would you refute those stances?Do not forget about visuals and design of arguments of definition.Matching claims to definitions is critical.

a. Identify one or two people in a career that you are interested in pursuing. Consider business people, teachers, nurses, artists, police officers, accountants, computer programmers, sales managers, etc.
b. Conduct personal interviews to find out how that person came to be in that career, how that career has worked out, the advantages and the disadvantages of being in that career, and what, if anything, he or she plans to do next. Construct a list of interview questions and take notes during the interview.
c. Check the Occupational Outlook Handbook for the career that interests you. This book put out regularly by the government contains fairly recent information about all types of jobs. Find the job you have in mind and read the profile of the job as presented in the OOH. You can google “Occupational Outlook Handbook” to find the most recent edition.
d. In addition to the information in the OOH about the career such as training, educational requirements, required certification, availability of jobs, future outlook, working conditions, pay, etc., see if you can find information about that career in the DFW area.
e. Write a profile of that career that incorporates the information you have gathered. To add interest in your essay, you might include anecdotes from your interviewees to help readers understand how they have arrived where they are now, what is involved in pursuing that career, and whether they would recommend the career to young people today.
Think of a targeted audience for your essay as well as your purpose for
writing. Perhaps a friend or classmate has no idea what career to pursue
and your essay will help acquaint him or her with your career choice. Or
perhaps doing this assignment has helped you consider a career that you had
not considered before and you are sharing that information with others.

Learning Outcomes
After reading this chapter, you should be able to
• Describe the thoughts, actions, and feelings associated with each Learning Pattern.
• Analyze your use of Sequence.
• Analyze your use of Precision.
• Analyze your use of Technical Reasoning.
• Analyze your use of Confluence.
• Explain the terms Dynamic learner, Bridge learner, and Strong-Willed learner.
• Describe your Learning Patterns within the context of a personal learning profile.
• Identify the role of metacognition and self-regulation in intentional learning.
“The knowledge of your Learning Patterns provides you with an explanation
of how you learn, not an excuse for failing to put forth the effort to learn.”
—Christine A. Johnston (2010, p. 107)
Section 2.1Understanding Learning Patterns
2.1 Understanding Learning Patterns
Have you ever noticed how your approach to a task differs from that of someone attempting
the same thing? Perhaps you are setting up a new device, interpreting an e-mail from your
boss, or struggling with how to resolve a problem between coworkers. You might watch
how someone else approaches these challenges and think to yourself, “That’s not how I
would do that.”
If you are aware of these differences,
you are not alone. In the 1930s cog-
nitive scientists recognized that the
different ways people undertake iden-
tical tasks, such as solving nonmath-
ematical or verbal puzzles, provided
insights into how they learn. In one
study, participants completed more
than 300 such puzzles to better under-
stand how each learned (Philip, 1936).
More than 80 years later, instead of
completing puzzles to understand
how you learn, you can take the Learn-
ing Connections Inventory (LCI). This
survey instrument was 6 years in the
making and field-tested with over
9,000 children and adults. It takes the
mystery out of how you learn and pro-
vides you with a set of terms to accu-
rately and thoroughly describe your learning processes. The information gleaned explains
what you may have always felt about yourself as a learner but may not have had the words to
describe.
Your Scale Scores
To understand the impact your Patterns have on you as a learner, you need to look first at the
four scale scores that make up your LCI results. Each will be a number from 7 to 35. Notice
that each score falls into a range of Use First, Use as Needed, and Avoid (see Figure 2.1).
• If you use one or more Patterns within the Use First range (25 to 35), you naturally
turn to them to begin your learning experience. You feel their energy, understand
how to employ them, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment each provides.
• If you use one or more Patterns in the Use as Needed range (18 to 24), you don’t
feel the same urgency to use them as you do a Pattern that falls in the Use First
range. Use as Needed Patterns are available all the time. Think of your car idling at
a stop si.

WEEK 1 - Reflection
Throughout the course, you have been building toward the achievement of the following competencies:
Analyze contemporary leadership practices from the perspective of innovation in a global environment.
Evaluate the leadership skills that drive innovation.
Evaluate what leaders of innovation do to shape organizational culture.
Communicate in a manner that is professional and consistent with expectations for members of the business professions.
For this discussion, reflect on the knowledge and skills you developed over the past six weeks. Address the following in your post:
Select one competency that you feel is the most important to you. How has your ability to perform these skills and apply this knowledge evolved? What concepts, skills, or insights were most relevant to you?
How have you grown in your academic and professional goals? Have you made progress on any items in the action plan you developed during first course?
---------------------
Leading Innovation
The white paper by Leslie, which you read earlier in this unit, presented a comprehensive study of 10 leadership skills and practices that will be needed to effectively lead organizations into and in the future. Based on what you know so far about the DNA of disruptive innovators, explain which of these leadership skills provides the best support for leading innovation and creating innovative organizations. What are the specific attributes of the leade.

How to embrace opposing models and apply Integrative Thinking
in four (not always easy) steps.

IN THE EFFECTIVE EXECUTIVE, P e t e r D r u c k e r w r i t e s at l e n g t h a b o u t
decision making, arguing that it is a central executive task. An ef-
fective decision-maker, he says, focuses on the most important
decisions, works to achieve deep conceptual understanding and
isn't overly impressed by speed. But Drucker also points to a par-
ticular idiosyncrasy of effective decision-makers: "The under-
standing that underlies the right decision grows out of the clash
of divergent opinions and out of serious consideration of the
competing alternatives."
Effective decision makers, Drucker says, disregard conven-
tional wisdom about reaching consensus and instead work to
create disagreement and dissention. As an example, he points to
the man who turned General Motors into the largest company
in the world:
"Alfred Sloan is reported to have said at a meeting of one of
his top committees: 'Gentlemen, I take it we are all in com-
plete agreement on the decision here.' Everyone around the
table nodded assent. 'Then,' continued Mr. Sloan, 'I propose
that we postpone further discussion of this matter until our
next meeting to give ourselves time to develop disagree-
ment and perhaps gain some understanding of what the
decision is all about.'"
Sloan, Drucker says, "knew that the right decision demands ade-
quate disagreement." In other words, it is in the tension between
competing ideas that we come to understand the true nature of
a problem and start to see possibilities for a better answer.
This notion is at the very heart of Integrative Thinking. But
it is also challenging to operationalize due to a key tenet of the
human condition: conflict is uncomfortable and runs counter to
our natural desire for certainty. We feel intuitively that opposing
views are threatening to organizational harmony and that con-
sensus should be our goal. No wonder, then, that when we're
faced with opposing options, we often discount one of them as
simply wrong, and its proponents as either 'misguided' or 'ill-
intentioned'.
In fact, as Drucker hints, opposing models are only a prob-
lem when we choose to treat them as such. Sloan's example of-
fers another, more productive approach, which is to use conflict-
ing ideas to truly understand the problem. We can dig deep into
the opposing alternatives, and into the tension between them, to
look for a better answer, treating opposing models as ...

Short Essay Questions:
For your final take home exam you will have to answer a total of three of these questions, one from the first five and one from the second five and a third of your choosing from any of the ten.
For your exam you must answer one of this first set of five.
1. What is naturalism and essentialism? Why is it problematic to essentialize gender? How does essentializing gender reproduce and perpetuate stereotypes? What does it mean to say that gender is a social construct that is self-regulated? Further, what does it mean to suggest that gender is “omni-relevant” and that people are “doing gender” constantly? What does this have to do with the concept of performing or communicating gender?
2. According to Mears, how do cultural ideas of race and femininity inform production practices in the fashion modeling market? What are the core differences in representation on the commercial and editorial side of the fashion industry? How does the colorblind ideology (be sure to define the colorblind ideology) reproduce racist practices in the booking of fashion models according to Mears?
3. What is discourse? Why is important to understand the discourses that surround the topic of racism? How, according to Doane, is the discourse on racism connected to the colorblind ideology? (Be sure to define the colorblind ideology.) How is discourse on racism related to the signifying process of “pollution”? How does this process of pollution impact our understanding of racism? Lastly, how would a sociologist describe racism? (Think systemic and institutionalized racism.)
4. What does Goffman mean when he suggests that we perform all of our actions? Further, what does he mean when he suggests we are consistently trying to manage the impressions of those with whom we interact? How can our actions be impacted by the cues delivered to us by our audience? What does this have to do with the concepts of idealization and negative idealization?
5. What does Goffman mean when he suggests that the self is a social construction? What does this have to do with different settings and stages we all perform on? Explain the difference between the front stage and the back stage. Legitimacy and authenticity are connected to congruency; explain what congruency, and its related term defusion, are, how it relates to the front and back stages, and how it can impact an individual’s legitimacy and perceived authenticity.
For your exam must answer one of this second set of five.
6. According to Grindstaff and Murray, what are the societal changes that have helped give rise to reality television? Describe in detail the process with which reality television creates branded affect, serves itself and is intertwined in the emotion economy? Lastly, authenticity is an important prerequisite for reality star success; how is this complicated by the proliferation of agencies that teach you how.

THE ETHICAL DILEMMA SPYING ON UNILEVER INTRODUCTION In Business Ethics as a Rational Choice, John Hooker cited a case study to analyze rational choice based on an issue with espionage. In 2001, John Pepper, Chairman of the Board at

Was it GENERALIZABLE? Generalizable means there must be a reason behind an action, and the action is justified for everyone (p.7). Was it utilitarian? Utilitarian analysis states that the rational choice must maximize utility (p. 6). Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Think of your car idling at
a stop si.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

There are many stimuli in your environment of which you are not aware. You use attention to
filter out unimportant stimuli and focus on relevant stimuli. However, there are circumstances
under which you cannot perceive stimuli, regardless of how hard you “pay attention.” One
situation is when visual stimuli are presented in quick succession. If the interval between the two
stimuli is short enough, you do not perceive the second stimulus. This lapse in attention is known
as attentional blink. In this assignment, you will experience the attentional blink for yourself and
will also read about practical implications of the phenomenon.
Access the CogLab demonstration Attentional Blink. Follow the instructions to complete the
demonstration.
Read the following article:
•Livesey, E. J., Harris, I. M., & Harris, J. A. (2009). Attentional changes during implicit
learning: Signal validity protects a target stimulus from the attentional blink. Journal of
Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 35(2), 408-408-422.
doi:10.1037/a0014525 (ProQuest Document ID: 614494049)
Using the experience from the CogLab demonstration and information from the article, write a
paper that addresses the following:
•Explain how the attentional blink relates to attention. Analyze how the variation in time
influences the probability of seeing the second target letter. Explain the circumstances under
which the attentional blink can be eliminated.
•In the CogLab demonstration, letters were used as targets. The target used can influence the
duration of one’s attentional blink and whether the attentional blink even occurs. Complete the
following tasks: ◦Propose at least two other targets that could be used to induce the attentional
blink.
◦Predict the effect each of your suggested targets would have on the duration of one’s attentional
blink as compared to the CogLab activity you completed.
◦Explain the reasoning behind your predictions.
•Present and discuss at least three occupations in which workers’ performance could be
adversely affected by attentional blink. Identify and explain the types of problems or mistakes
that might occur in such occupations due to the attentional blink.
•Several years ago, some vehicle models came with a heads-up display (HUD). Instead of
looking down at a panel on the dashboard, speed, distance traveled, fuel level, and time appeared
2. to be displayed over the hood of the car. Discuss this design in terms of divided attention and
attentional blink. Do you think the design was a good idea?
Write a 4-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the
following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.doc.

Explained the phenomenon of attention, described how time between targets affects the
probability of seeing the second target, and analyzed how it can be eliminated or reduced in other
conditions showing understanding and application of cognitive psychology concepts.
20
Applied knowledge of cognitive psychology concepts to propose other targets appropriate for
experiment, predict their effects on attentional blink, and provide an explanation for predictions
showing understanding and application of cognitive psychology concepts.
20
Identified three occupations that could adversely be affected by attentional blink and explained
the types of problems or mistakes that might occur in such occupations due to attentional blink
showing understanding and application of cognitive psychology concepts.
