This document discusses various protocols for online communication including chatting, video conferencing, and wireless internet connections. It describes Internet Relay Chat (IRC) as a protocol used for interactive text messaging and conferencing in discussion forums and privately. Video conferencing protocols like H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) establish and terminate multimedia sessions among multiple participants. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) delivers voice and video calls over Internet Protocol networks. Wi-Fi and WiMax enable wireless internet connections without wired connections to Internet Service Providers.

5. The Internet Relay Chat is a protocol used for live interactive
internal text messaging or simultaneous conferencing. It is
mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums,
called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication
messages as well as chat and data transfer including file sharing.
 The user runs a program to connect to a server on one of the
IPC nets.
 The server relays information to and forms other servers on
the same net.
 Once connected to an IRC server on an IRC network, you will
usually join one or more channels and converse with others
there.

 Resembles HTTP protocol.
 Works with both IPv4 and IPv6.
