Introduction
Being able to: (1) formulate (2) express (3) comprehend and (4) shareis a skill that is ever
developingwithin us. Even though a common way in distributing information with many is
“speaking out loadto the group,” this method can be challenging. Each one of us has our
ownprocessing speed thus impacting ourlevel of understanding. Moreover, if there is a
language barrierin which translationsare needed, can generate an even greater inequity in
understanding and engagement. To stimulate an interactiveconversation,where everyone
is actively thinking and proposing ideas per the questions or prompts given, requires
commitment and reflection. By promotingthesetypes of conversations, the values of equity
and empowerment can be felt by all.


Purpose
Through using PowerPoint to display a question on the LCD Screen, along with regular
computer paper, can support acollaborative culture of learning that mergesthe benefits of
both group and individual work into one.          By sharing ones’ ideas via paper and
participating in physical exchanges, an idea (a seed) that was maybe undeveloped or
emergingcan be enhanced by another person/group in the room. Seeing the evolution of
an idea grow,engendersa focus on teamwork as a key catalyst for change.


Logistics
   1. Develop questions or open-ended prompts that should be displayed either in
       PowerPoint or written on Flip Chart Paper.
   2. Each person can work individually, or with his or her group (size limit of 3 persons
       per group).

3. Provide paper to each person/group, along with pens and colored markers. Instruct
       all to fold the paper in half and write their name on it.
   4. Display the question. Give each person/group 5-minutes to discuss, while either
       writing or drawing their ideas onto the inner part of the paper.
   5. When is the time is up, each person/group will then exchange their page with
       another person/group.
   6. Allot another 5-minutes for the new person/group to discuss what was notedon the
       paper while also adding or challengingpoints written by the previous person/group
       on the remaining blank section of the paper.
   7. Continue these rotations, about 2-3 per question, then providing new paper for the
       following questions. It is advisable to use one color per question/page (i.e. question
       #1 = blue paper, question #2 = green paper).
   8. Before facilitating a reflection, ask each person/group to find their original pages.
       (The one in which the person/group was the first to respond to the given question).


Successes
       This protocol encourages strategic and concise thinking of ideas that can be
       strengthened and enhanced as the conversations advance.
       Through physical movement, this helps attendees with sustaining their attention.
       Meeting new people, through physical exchanges and reading ones’ ideas can
       prompt possible future conversations.
       Expression through drawings, bulleted points, or sentences supports the diverse
       learning abilities of students, as we all have value.
