 Sunglasses (conceal facial features)
 Explosives
What Props are Used in a
Thriller
 In my opening sequence Candice finds the knife in a
cupboard, distraught that her boyfriend has broken up with
her she exits the house with the knife, leaving the opening
sequence on a cliffhanger
 I have used a knife specifically as my main prop to show
the power change from weak and venerable to powerful
and dangerous women. This is also challenges gender
stereotype, as well as creates a twist in the story as the
audience may not expect the protagonist to go to such
extreme lengths
 A knife also connotes violence and fear to the audience
this links to the conventions of a thriller, the prop also
creates ideal opportunity to become a shiny noticeable
object which can be emphasised with specific shots
Knife
 In my opening sequence tissues are spewed over the bed
sheets as Candice cries about her boyfriend breaking up
with they are seen within a number of shots
 I have used tissues to connote Candice’s vulnerability and
her emotions which are sadness, this also forms a weak
perspective of Candice making the audience believe
something different
 The tissues are crumpled to connote that they have been
used and that previously Candice had been crying
 The bed sheets are specifically black to ensure that the
tissues stand out as a main prop of the scene
Tissue
 In the first scene I have focused on a picture of Candice and
her boyfriend on the floor scrupled up and in the 3rd scene
the audience witnesses Candice tearing a picture of her
previous relationship into two
 I have used photos to build a relationship between Candice
and her ex boyfriend for the audience to emphasis with,
this will make the audience more interested in the storyline
as the story plot is relatable to many people
 This prop is very important for the opening sequence as it
establishes Candice's feelings towards her ex boyfriend
hence ripping the picture into two, connotes anger and
aggression foreshadowing the next part of the film.
Memorable photos
 This prop is used to show Candice calling her ex boyfriend
in distress there are a variety of different shots to portray
this to the audience
 I have used an Iphone to also create familiarity within the
scene with the audience, as well to connote a
communication breakdown between Candice and her ex
boyfriend helping make the storyline more clear to the
audience
 The I phone also help makes sense of the dialogue as it is
Candice leaving voice message to her ex boyfriend this
creates more meaning and mystery within the storyline
linking to the convention of a Thriller
