Producer(s):Alana Querino-Bubsy Production Title: Good Intentions -
Disclosure
Brief:
To make a music video of our choice.
Aim:
To create a high quality music video to the song ‘Good intentions’ by Disclosure.
Description of your intentions:
The intentions behind my music video is create a narrative based around a relationship
that has ended. The video follows a young boy (Myles) who has shown up to his ex-
girlfriend’s house (Alyssia) and has left her a letter and photos from when they were
together. I want the narrative to link to lyrics and within the lyrics we have a male
character who is admitting that he was wrong in the relationship and that he should have
tried better. This is why I have decided on the letter and photos to show how apologetic
he is. The idea of the video is to have Alyssia find these on her doorstep and look through
them. As she is looking through the photo’s the audience will see flashback scenes to that
particular photo and see either a happy memory within the relationship or a sad one that
was one of the causes for the relationship to end. Meanwhile I want Myles to still be sat
outside as he is trying to pump himself up to go inside and makeup with her. The idea
isn’t for the two characters to get back together but instead to just resolve their issues as
it becomes clear to the audience that they were once very close and could potentially be
that close once more.
I will include flashbacks in London and in one of their houses to show a contrast in
locations. I would like to utilize the colours to change the flashback scenes to be either
more exposed or duller to show that contrast in the memory.
I would like to think I am capable of showing a mixed of emotions rather than just sad the
entire way through. My reasons for this are because I would like people to feel sorry more
the girl when seeing the sad scenes. However, I would like the audience to enjoy the
happy scene and almost route for the relationship in some form or another. As the lyrics
are about the boy messing up the relationship and taking full responsibility for that I
would want some form of remorse there for him as he is able to accept his flaws.
Target Audience:
For my target audience I have decided that the video will be aimed specifically towards
teenagers and young adults due mainly to the song choice, as I have chosen a very up-
beat, electronic song. I feel that this genre of music doesn’t appeal to audiences older
than mine or younger that’s why I have specifically gone in the middle. As well as this I
feel that my video will be more relatable to them as it is based around breakups and it is
around this time in your life that you experience these most and this is almost like a
learning curve in your life for relationships before you properly settle down in a
monogamous relationship. I think that with my target audience as well, a way to entice
them into watching my video will be based a lot around the models I use.
Similar Products:
I have found many products similar to this. However, one video in particular that I have
been strongly inspired by is Bryson Tiller ‘Exchange’. The video like mine follows a
relationship that has broken up and with this video in particular I like the idea of seeing
the breakup through the ideas of the male character as in todays society we normally see
it through the eyes of the girl and the boy is normally portrayed to be the antagonist of
the video. Seeing as the lyrics talk about the boy being open about the fact that he
messed up allows a contrast between the normal conventions of neither partner in the
relationship taking responsibility for where it went wrong.
