1. A modern car will be drove by the character of
Sam Baker in the first opening scenes of the
trailer. This prop will demonstrate Baker entering
the town of Woodwich on his commute home.
We will use the wheel and the lights to create the
look of a crash. It should symbolise the “normal”
which is disrupted by the “unknown”.
The phone will be used by the
character of Sam Baker when he
pulls to a stop. It should
represent him telling his
girlfriend that he is on his way
home, which adds dramatic irony
of the question whether he will
make it home.
These masks will create a
horrific atmosphere by
applying the unknown.
Because it is hard to
create scary looking
actors, these masks are an
easy way of doing this.
The white mask will also
cross promote the use of
Lauren’s ancilliary
products (film poster).
An old fashioned looking bed
surrounded by overly sweet props such
as flowers and blankets will surround
Sam Baker as he awakes from his crash.
These should be seen as creepy and
confusing. They are meant to trick Baker
into staying in the village in the hope of
the cult using him as human sacrifice.
2. The dining table and chairs should be set
similar to the bed and surrounding
products. In the scene where Baker is
tied up to the chair, the overly sweet
setting should juxtapose the horror of
the scene making it creepier.
This candelabra will set the table as
sweet and homely. The lighted
candles could be used as a cult like
montage with the use of negative
effect during the editing process.
A voodoo doll will again bring in the theme of cult.
We could again use the idea of negative effect in a
montage of sequences which would bring a motif
to the trailer and make it conventionally horrific. It
also links Sophie’s ancilliary work to the trailer
which creates cross promotion for our work.
This table and chairs set will help us set the scene
of the café, where the protagonist Sam Baker will
meet Laura. Here is where she will tell him that he
needs to escape. The café setting should look fairly
“normal”, telling the audience that Laura is
trustworthy.
3. The note will be used as a prop by Laura indicating
“get out”. These short words will feature in an
extreme close up signifying the danger of this
village and bringing in some significant horror
conventions.
The matches and petrol can (filled
with water) will help us to convey
the scene where Baker tries to burn
down the church in anger of
Constance. The idea of pouring
water out of a can and throwing a
match is safe, looks realistic and
creates tension as we won’t know
what happens.
This wooden sign will be the sign that I used in my
ancilliary work. I created this sign out of old wood
and painted on the words of “Welcome to
Woodwich”, again signifying the bitter sweet theme.
This again will help me cross promote my products.
4. The pulpit is significant in symbolises the church
where Constance stands. Here she may see herself
as religious and “right”, but all this is juxtaposed
with her actions.
A book shelf will indicate the
setting of a library where Sam
Baker is investigating the town
with books. It is here where he
finds a book on cult and human
sacrifice.
This is the book that Baker will
find whilst researching in the
library. We will use extreme close
ups of the symbols that he
witnesses and feature flashbacks
of him noticing around the town.
