Windows Vista was one of the biggest product failures of the last 20 years for Microsoft. It was released more than 5 years after Windows XP, and aimed to improve security and include new features like Aero and Windows Search. However, it faced significant criticism for being too slow, susceptible to malware and viruses, difficult to transition from or to Windows XP, and lack of compatibility with some hardware and software. While it achieved over 400 million users, its market share declined and Microsoft ceased retail sales in 2010 due to overall user dissatisfaction compared to Windows XP.
