Overview of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project
The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose road-rail bridge across the Padma River under construction
in Bangladesh. It will connect Louhajong, Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur, linking the
south-west of the country, to northern and eastern regions. Padma Bridge is the most challenging
construction project in the history of Bangladesh.

Socio-economic Development of the Bangladesh basically development of the south east part of
the country.
Mission of the Padma multipurposeProject
 The bridge would greatly ease travel in
Bangladesh by connecting 21 districts of
the country.
 It would add a new dimension to
country's economy, culture,
communication and social sectors.
 The import and export income would
increase tremendously through Mongla
and Pyara seaports in this region.
 The Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project
(PMBP) will provide direct connectivity
between the central and southwestern
part of the country through a fixed link
on the Padma River on Mawa-Janjira points. It also facilitates regional trade, promote
industrial and commercial activities and increase economic and employment opportunities.
 It also mobilizes the industrial and commercial activities in the south east part of the
country.
 It develops road, railway, transmission and telecommunication networks to connect with
the south western part of the country.
 Rapid urbanization take place in the area of the project.
 The distances of almost all the major destinations in the region from Dhaka will be reduced
by 100 km or more and hauling time of vehicles will reduce by over 3 hours each trip
resulting in huge fuel saving, reducing the air emission and passenger time-saving through
the implementation of this Project.

Goals of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge
 First goal of the project is to economic development of the country as well as southern part
of the Bangladesh.
 To achieve the target of 2021.
 Connecting the south eastern part of the Bangladesh with the capital city of Dhaka.
 Rapid urbanization is taking place in the project which lead the high standard of living &
employment opportunity.
 Achieve higher Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
 Padma bridge reduce the time of the traveling.
 Railway, Gas & Telecommunication network service establish in the project area.
 Different types of business developed in the south east area.
 People migration take place in the south east area which is upright for the capital city of
the Bangladesh.
 Increase in accessibility to towns, markets, ports and growth centers.
 Growth of the tourism spot of the south east part is increased.
