EXPLICIT DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF HIGH PRESSURE CAP RUNNING TOOL
1. EXPLICIT DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF HIGH
PRESSURE CAP RUNNING TOOL
Design and strength analysis performed for Tension block used
for force resistance from clamp mounted to Slick joint and
extension joint, during lifting.
Explicit Dynamic Analysis carried out for
High Pressure Cap Running Tool (HPCRT)
is developed by using ANSYS Workbench
and LS Dyna Pre-Post Solver.
Running Tool is used to install/retrieve
High Pressure Cap subsea. HPCRT UCON-
H-12 will be run subsea by a guide Wire
Anchor connected to the receptacle on the
top. A dedicated 2 part sling will be used
to lift the running tool on the rig and
onshore. This unit will usually be
transported with a transport skid from
supply boat to rig, but can be lifted
separately.
The analysis is based on bilinear material
model for steel with use of criterion
between offset yield strength (0.2% proof
strength) and 2% limitation for strain at
area of strain hardening, where the
ultimate strength point located.
For more efficient simulation model, the
model is converted to a surface body
model. This will result in a shell element
mesh that is ideal for structures
consisting of thin plate sections of
continue thickness.
The analysis are covered acc. to relevant
requirement from standard DNV 2.7-3
operation class R60, where the equipment
should be inclined that each of the bottom
side and end members connected to the
lowest corner forms an angle of not less
than 5º with the floor. However, the
greatest height difference between the
highest and lowest point of the underside
of the unit corners need not to be more
than 400mm.
The explicit dynamic analysis is a unique
method, which involves different
technique and knowledge through the
analysis. It involves knowledge about
different type energies observed for the
analysis, speed and material behavior, etc.
