INTRODUCTION
Geo Visualization-
ArcMap and ArcScene visually display geographic data
Virtual Environment-
Ferrand Field and surrounding buildings;
University of Colorado at Boulder
Purpose:
Demonstrate an accurate geo
Visualization of Ferrand Field by
digitizing the surrounding features
with 3D symbols, creating a realistic
virtual environment of this section of
the campus.

-Boulder Quandrangle
-Downloaded from Mapmart.com
-Converted from STDS to GRID format
-Reprojected: NAD 1983 UTM Zone 13N
-30m X 30m Resolution
Digital Orthographic Imagery:
-2011 National Ag. Imagery Program Mosaic
-Downloaded from USDA
-Projected: NAD 1983 UTM ZONE 13N
-1m X 1m Resolution
-Extracted to Area of Interest
METHODOLOGY
-Digitized features from imagery:
Buildings,
Trees and benches,
Roads, Paths, and Parking Lots
Light poles and Hydrants,
Power and Water Lines,
Fences,
Etc…
-Created Baker Hall using Google SketchUp
-Used photo textures from Google StreetView pictures
-Processed DEM and Digital Ortho-Imagery
-Applied 3D symbology to digitized features
-Altered orientation a variation of digitized features for accuracy

Train Tracks- 7 Ft.

-Male Adult, Female Adult, and Crowd symbols

-Utility Van, Toyota, and Cadillac
-Orientated to fit parking spaces
Hydrants:
-Typical shape; yellow
-Connected to water lines
Benches:
-Park Bench Symbol
-Individually orientated for accuracy
Light poles:
-Simple design; Connected to power lines
Paths: -3 Ft wide; Pavers
Roads/Parking Lots: -10 Ft; Asphalt
RESULTS
Water Source/Lines:
-Source: Water Tower
-Water lines in blue
-Offset 6 Ft. under surface
-Connects to dorms and hydrants
Power Source/ Lines:
-Source: Utility Poles
-Power lines in Red
-Offset 3 Ft. under surface
-Connects to dorms and light poles
RESULTS
Google SketchUp:
Baker Hall:
-Outline traced from google
-Push/Pull tool for shape
-Street view for Photo Texture
In ArcScene:
-Exported to as .DAE (COllADA) File
-Applied as Baker Hall symbology
-Size increased to for realism
-Position altered to fit accurately
CONCLUSION
-Geovisualitzaion creates unique representations of virtual environments
-Google SketchUp can be used to create symbols for real world situations
-Applying 3D symbology to geovisualisation created virtual view of Ferrand Field
-Layers float on custom elevation from DEM to add to realistic representation
