How Mobile Apps Are Helping Churches GrowBizness Apps
Technology in church is nothing new. It was there when the overhead projector gave everyone the hymn words, and is now there in smart tech and sound equipment. It makes sense that mobile apps, the technology of today, are brought on board by churches too. Given that weekend worship attendance is dropping year on year, something definitely has to change if churches are to survive the seismic change of culture since the dawn of the mobile age.

Slides from Marco Campana's workshop at the 2010 ISAP conference, focusing on use of social media in the non-profit community-based immigrant services sector in Ontario, Canada.
In response to COVID-19, Together Project's staff and volunteers had to quickly adapt and pivot their programs in order to continue providing social support to newcomers in Canada. While their new model is only a few months in the making, Together Project has learned a great deal about how to set up an online volunteering program.
In this presentation, Anna Hill and Andrew Lusztyk (from Together Project) share with us their insights, including:
- How to get started setting up an online volunteering program;
- Tips and tools to develop a greater capacity to onboard and train volunteers remotely;
- Benefits and challenges of online volunteering;
- How online volunteering can help vulnerable demographics––from equipping volunteers to tackle new challenges

Social software lets employees connect and share in new ways, and can dramatically improve the effectiveness of your organization. But social technologies like microblogging, social networking, automated activity feeds, social spreadsheets, wikis, etc. are new to most organizations, and most IT departments don’t have experience with how to successfully implement them.
Success with social software involves a lot more than simply finding the product that best fits your needs. It involves framing the problem appropriately in the first place, defining your business goals, and choosing a rollout methodology designed to meet those goals. It involves selling your CFO, changing behavior across your organization, and more.
This paper is designed to help you learn from the mistakes of others before you, so you can avoid the common pitfalls of social software, and get fast business value.

In the event of a major disease outbreak, senior managers need to respond in a timely fashion. To be able to do so, one needs to have all the latest information and data to make an appropriate decision. The County Health Department (CHD)’s strategic plan specific es increasing capacities for the program evaluation and response to major communicable disease outbreaks. Senior managers have identified ed the need to improve informatics capacity as an important step toward meeting these goals. Currently, each community health services program of CHD has information systems that effectively track specific information for their assigned work. However, the systems were designed reactively without considering future expansions or an updated public health data plan. Each data base is almost a standalone system. While the state data bases are linked to CHD’s data bases, the environmental data bases are not linked with communicable disease data bases. Representatives from the Tuberculosis (TB) program, for example, had to enter identical client information in four different places. Moreover, the state mandates the public health department report the health conditions of its citizens and control infectious diseases. In order for this to happen, one needs informatics systems that are capable of tracking infectious diseases and reporting all investigations in a timely manner. While the benefits of an integrated data base stand out, most employees in CHD are reluctant to change, particularly with regard to adopting and using a new technology as evidenced by the implementations of the EMR systems and other specifically designed data bases. To ensure success of the implementation, the project manager must provide relevant information to the stakeholders on a regular basis. This case focuses on project communication management, especially within the communication plan.
The Big Project
It all began when a new epidemiologist, hired by CHD, articulated the need to have an integrated public health informatics system. With the new system, the reporting of infectious diseases as well as possible future outbreaks could be done in a timely fashion. The decision makers can then make an appropriate decision.
The communicable disease section of the county health department has taken the lead in championing this project. The team includes two IT engineers and the epidemiologist, who will be overseeing the project. The team is responsible for gathering business processes and information system requirements, working closely with stakeholders, and at the same time, training IT engineers using the best practices developed by the Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII).
The project duration is expected to be from six .

Introduction
The implementation of a program can be designated as technical specification or program, software element or any 0ther systems over computer programming and the deployment. Frequently the implementations will be prevailing for a definite description or standards. The program application of a particular organization in the IT industry will give reimbursements and supports for high-level management(Ake & Kevin, 2009). It also deals with the participation of the customer. In addition, advance, the services in future, directing the audiences, the client awareness, and current programs would be understood.
The problem statement
The problem statement was a statement, which describes about, which recommendations should be done for implementing a program with high privacy as well as the security meanwhile unsecure program can source danger to an IT association and help third party to hack the information more with no trouble(Ake & Kevin, 2009). The programs that are unsecure will under no circumstances get to the clients because the programs will make them apprehension about concealed information. Furthermore, the programs must satisfy the need for the end users. Hence, it is necessary to have confidentiality (privacy), high protected, as well as user-friendly programs to circumvent many of the teething troubles.
Method used
The methods used to make an endorsement for implementing programs are two. The first method was formal method and the second one was an evaluation of R&D methods. The software companies in information technology industries helped the formal methods. The evaluation of the of R&D can be used for helping firms to improve the plan for a program and departments the surveys for identifying the usage for programs and awareness was created in an IT industry. In addition, the formal method was also used for the software development(Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 2014).
Alternative methods
Apart from the two methods used, there other method, which can be used for implementing the programs in IT industry and achieve the same results. These are such as Internet as well as software. The software itself can be able to give the codes for that software that in turn can produce a better and most useful result. These are just but a few methods that can be used for implementing the program in the software enterprises of an IT industry.

Innovating Inference - Remote Triggering of Large Language Models on HPC Clus...Globus
Large Language Models (LLMs) are currently the center of attention in the tech world, particularly for their potential to advance research. In this presentation, we'll explore a straightforward and effective method for quickly initiating inference runs on supercomputers using the vLLM tool with Globus Compute, specifically on the Polaris system at ALCF. We'll begin by briefly discussing the popularity and applications of LLMs in various fields. Following this, we will introduce the vLLM tool, and explain how it integrates with Globus Compute to efficiently manage LLM operations on Polaris. Attendees will learn the practical aspects of setting up and remotely triggering LLMs from local machines, focusing on ease of use and efficiency. This talk is ideal for researchers and practitioners looking to leverage the power of LLMs in their work, offering a clear guide to harnessing supercomputing resources for quick and effective LLM inference.
Enhancing Research Orchestration Capabilities at ORNL.pdfGlobus
Cross-facility research orchestration comes with ever-changing constraints regarding the availability and suitability of various compute and data resources. In short, a flexible data and processing fabric is needed to enable the dynamic redirection of data and compute tasks throughout the lifecycle of an experiment. In this talk, we illustrate how we easily leveraged Globus services to instrument the ACE research testbed at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility with flexible data and task orchestration capabilities.

Executive Summary
With this system proposal contains information of the Home Teaching app, which is to
improve communications between Priesthood leaders, Quorum members and ward
families (see Systems Request). Despite the risk, most of the benefits of the app will help to
strengthen wards and improve home teaching in the ward (see Business value and
Organizational feasibility). At the end of the proposal will be information about each project
member.
Target Audience
We specifically considered several locations where there is a high demand, and we have
come up with the decision to launch the app across the state of Utah.
Risks and Opportunity
Drawbacks include the unavailability of the mobile application in areas where smartphones
and internet is inaccessible. On the other hand, this Home Teaching app is greatly
beneficent in areas where there is a high count of internet and smartphones users.

Systems Request
Project sponsor: Abraham McDonald, Vice President of Church Finances
Business Need
This project is to improve the communications between the Priesthood Quorum President,
relief society president, the ministers and the families being home taught; in order to
improve the percentage of ministering visits.
Business Requirements
The app will be available for android and iOS devices. This app should allow the Priesthood
President and the Relief Society President to have access to his ward list from LDS.org. He
should be able to send the assignments for each of quorum members through the app and
be able to receive real-time notifications if his quorum members did their home teaching
and if there are any concerns from the quorum members or the families being taught.
Here are the functions that the app should have,
● Feedbacks from ministers or the families
● Information of the families (where they live, their names, preferences like hobbits,
culture, birthdays)
● Scheduling feature for the ministers and families
Business Value
We believe that this app will have mainly intangible benefits on church members by
improving the relationships in the wards and bring families closer together. Along with
that, this app has the potential to reactive less-actives and to identify which members (who
are physically challenge) needs assistance. As for tangible, we expect that home teaching
percentages to increase by 50% by using this app in the wards. Also, this app will make
home teaching effectively by 30%.
Special Issues or Constraints
1. Permission from Church Headquarters for this app to access church records
2. Integrating the ap with church programs and google maps.
4. 3
Feasibility Analysis
Technical Feasibility
Project size medium risk
● Priesthood leaders feedback is required
● Project team has fewer than 8 people
● Project time frame will be done in 6 months
Risk in Familiarity with Internet and Applications is High
● Those with very little knowledge of mobile devices
● Workers have knowledge on creating an app on android but limited
knowledge on integrating website to mobile apps
● Limitation on languages on the first version
● Limitation of Internet access
Compatibility with existing technical infrastructure should be good.
● The new system will be built upon the existing LDS website to access ward
information for the users
● There are plans for future updates for the app
Economic Feasibility
● A cost and benefit analysis was performed, and the following data was gathered.
See the document. Click here
● ROI over 5 years: 0.15%
● Total benefit after five years: 1.65 million
● Break even occurs: after 5 years
Intangible Cost and Benefits
● Increased number of Home-teaching lessons and visits
● Stronger bonds within families and relationships with ward members

Organizational Feasibility
Since home teaching is an important assignment that almost all accountable male
Latter-day Saints need to fulfill every month, it is obvious that there is a high demand on
this application. With this application, home-teachers can contact one another in an easier
way. This section will analyze the organizational feasibility of this project, and answers the
question: “Why they use it?” in three perspectives: (1) growing trend in technology, (2) quick
and easy to start, and (3) benefits toward other stakeholders.
(1) Growing Trend in Technology
As all of us know that technology is having a great impact in our lives. Nowadays, many
people rely on their smartphones and laptops to work on their assignments and projects
especially in school or at work. This trend is rapidly growing, proving that well-designed
technology in an organization is definitely necessary. People rely on technology as a
reminder, or even guidance to tell them what needs to be done daily, monthly or any
special days. By having this app, priesthood brethren can treat this assignment more
seriously because it is included in their monthly checklist.
(2) Quick and Easy way to Start
The hardest thing on this work is not “how to do”, but “how to start”. Many of us probably
have a crazy and busy schedule. Sometimes, we know there are work that need to be done;
moreover, it is hard to set up time and plan out things. With this app, users can know
others availability and also let others to know theirs too. Users can then compare their time
schedules, and set up time which becomes much easier. Once the time is set and is in their
schedules, users will have higher chance to finish their home teaching assignments by the
end of the month.
(3) Other Stakeholders’ Benefits
For the LDS church, most funding come from tithing and donations. This app is created for
all members. When members find that this app which is contributed by them, they will
have a strong sense of ownership towards it. Furthermore, they will be more supportive
and concerned about church events. On the other hand, this app will reach out to public
and can attract investigators. Many people like sharing apps between peers and family.
When non-users find their friends having this sophisticated app for home teachings, they
will also be interested in trying it out too.
