Clinical Outcomes of VideoPhone Intervention
1) The study tested the use of videophones as a communication tool for hospice caregivers to potentially decrease anxiety and improve quality of life.
2) Twelve caregivers from two rural hospice agencies used videophones every two weeks over 18 months and completed anxiety and quality of life instruments.
3) Findings showed decreased anxiety scores but no significant change in quality of life scores. Caregivers found the videophones useful for communication and ease of mind despite technical issues.

The Whole System Demonstrator programme evaluated the use of telehealth and telecare to improve care for people with long-term conditions. It was the largest randomized controlled trial of telehealth/telecare in the world, involving over 6,000 people across several sites in the UK. The results showed that technology can help manage long-term conditions when integrated into redesigned care systems and combined with clinical engagement. However, successful implementation requires addressing organizational challenges, building trust with patients, and focusing on more than just introducing new devices. The findings support telehealth/telecare as part of improving care for the growing number of people with long-term conditions.
Driving progress in healthcare through NHS research

Let's get digital
What happens when forty researchers, patients, entrepreneurs and health and social care staff come together to discuss digital technologies and their impact on NHS sustainability and transformation?
That was the experiment at the University of Southampton' s Web Sciences Institute on 16 January, at a workshop sponsored by the Institute, the CLAHRC and Wessex AHSN.
And the result?
A highly energetic and constructive exchange of views from the diverse stakeholders in the room.
The take away messages:
1. The NHS has to embrace digital technologies to survive but precisely how it embraces these is critical;
2. successful adoption of digital technologies needs to take account of:
• the political imperative of developing a compact between public services, service providers and citizens about how their data may be used;
• the social processes involved in patient and workforce adaption to technologies and the substantial research base that already exists in this field *the technical challenges involved in ensuring that a proliferation of health data and digital devices develops in a way that supports integrated, patient-centred care rather than promoting fragmented data and digital silos;
• developing the capacity to adapt to and exploit fundamentally disruptive innovation from within the NHS and from SMEs many of which have their origins in academic research or front-line clinical practice

How might we maintain and develop the coalition of interests that met in the workshop to underpin a research-driven, innovation-friendly digital technologies implementation plan for the NHS in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Watch this space.

Critical Engagement with Digital Health Technologies for NHS STPs
Let's get digital
What happens when forty researchers, patients, entrepreneurs and health and social care staff come together to discuss digital technologies and their impact on NHS sustainability and transformation?
That was the experiment at the University of Southampton' s Web Sciences Institute on 16 January, at a workshop sponsored by the Institute, the CLAHRC and Wessex AHSN.
And the result?
A highly energetic and constructive exchange of views from the diverse stakeholders in the room.
The take away messages:
1. The NHS has to embrace digital technologies to survive but precisely how it embraces these is critical;
2. successful adoption of digital technologies needs to take account of:
• the political imperative of developing a compact between public services, service providers and citizens about how their data may be used;
• the social processes involved in patient and workforce adaption to technologies and the substantial research base that already exists in this field *the technical challenges involved in ensuring that a proliferation of health data and digital devices develops in a way that supports integrated, patient-centred care rather than promoting fragmented data and digital silos;
• developing the capacity to adapt to and exploit fundamentally disruptive innovation from within the NHS and from SMEs many of which have their origins in academic research or front-line clinical practice

How might we maintain and develop the coalition of interests that met in the workshop to underpin a research-driven, innovation-friendly digital technologies implementation plan for the NHS in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Watch this space.

Dave Tyas- Beyond 2010: SMART Living Panel

The trial provided patients with devices to monitor health readings like blood pressure and weight at home, which were transmitted to nurses. Initial concerns from doctors about increased workload were alleviated as the technology allowed remote monitoring and helped prevent unnecessary visits. Patients found the systems easy to use and that it increased their independence and empowerment.

Designing and Evaluating a Cognitive Prosthetic for People with Mild Dementia
The COGKNOW project aimed to develop and evaluate a cognitive prosthetic device and services to help people with mild dementia experience greater autonomy. Over three years, the project involved workshops with people with dementia and carers to understand needs in areas like memory, social contact, daily activities, and safety. This led to the development of the COGKNOW Day Navigator, a device that provided reminding, activity support, picture dialing, and safety functions. Evaluation found it was generally well-received and useful, especially for reminding, though further development was needed for safety functions. Technically, an iterative user-centered design approach integrating off-the-shelf technologies was used. While demonstrating technical and user benefits, the project also identified
Implanted Neural Prosthetics - an Introduction
This webinar discussed implanted neural prosthetics for restoring function. It defined neural prosthetics as devices that connect directly to the nervous system to replace or supplement function. The webinar outlined therapeutic applications that aim to restore voluntary motor control through temporary treatment versus prosthetic applications that replace lost function with an implanted device. Examples of neurostimulation applications included bladder control, breathing, hand function, and more. Clinical trials were discussed as the process for testing these devices, and resources were provided to learn about eligibility and participation. The webinar concluded by discussing how the Institute for Functional Restoration aims to create a sustainable commercialization model for neuromodulation systems to restore function long-term.
New technologies in social care and NICE's role, pop up uni, 2pm, 2 september...
Expo is the most significant annual health and social care event in the calendar, uniting more NHS and care leaders, commissioners, clinicians, voluntary sector partners, innovators and media than any other health and care event.
Expo 15 returned to Manchester and was hosted once again by NHS England. Around 5000 people a day from health and care, the voluntary sector, local government, and industry joined together at Manchester Central Convention Centre for two packed days of speakers, workshops, exhibitions and professional development.
This year, Expo was more relevant and engaging than ever before, happening within the first 100 days of the new Government, and almost 12 months after the publication of the NHS Five Year Forward View. It was also a great opportunity to check on and learn from the progress of Greater Manchester as the area prepares to take over a £6 billion devolved health and social care budget, pledging to integrate hospital, community, primary and social care and vastly improve health and well-being.

My presentation will look at the benefits of harnessing new health technology and mobile health data to improve therapy services, promote wellness and awareness through better patient engagement and help improve medical research. I'll also cover what I believe the future holds for the mHealth industry with respect to rehabilitation and prevention, and what challenges lie ahead for providers that consider adopting these new methods of care delivery.

Interventions
Falling incidences can cause several complications, including health care costs, severe health issues, immobility, etc. With the severity of this issue, appropriate interventions should take place. In this context, proper monitoring is one of the significant interventions to prevent this incidence (Huang et al., 2020). Hence, incorporating educated and efficient technicians while providing patient care can be an essential step. Yet, due to decreased mobility or functionality, older people often require help in doing basic activities, in this aspect, providing help to the patients while changing to hospital-approved gowns (Liu-Ambrose et al., 2019). In addition, one significant and effective intervention is providing quick education to the patient regarding fall prevention strategies (Radecki, Reynolds & Kara, 2018). Another critical aspect is providing a safe environment for clinical care. Outpatient clinics should improve their workflow and environmental condition, such as removing hazardous materials, and keeping the floor clean and dry, so that the clinic can provide a safe area for older patients. These interventions can help prevent falls (Guirguis-Blake et al., 2018).
Benchmark - Capstone Change Project Objectives
1. Prevent elderly falls in an outpatient radiology clinic.
Rationale: Falls occur as age advances due to individual risk factors or environmental factors. For example, gait or balance deficits, chronic conditions, medications, and footwear the patient is wearing. Assisting these patient populations can prevent falls in the department.
2. Educate patients and people in the community on how to prevent falls.
Rationale: Educate patients regarding physical changes and chronic health conditions that cause or probability of falls.
3. Provide a safe environment for clinical care in the outpatient clinical setting.
Rationale: Design the clinical area accessible to patients in wheelchairs, with assistive devices, and with mobility deficits. Have handrails on walls and hallways for support, clean, non-skid floors, and lighted pathways in hallways, rooms, and bathrooms.
4. A patient care technician (PCT) is available in the outpatient clinical area for patients.
Rationale: Having a PCT in the clinical area, especially around the dressing rooms, would benefit the patients needing help when changing to hospital-approved gowns and monitoring patients for risk.
M-Health

- 7. Stroke rehabilitation exercise at home Kinect depth sensor provides pose estimations for the human body in real-time, as shown. Using this data we intend to perform human motion analysis during rehabilitation to answer the following questions: • How well was the exercise performed? • Was it free from compensatory movements?
