George Saperas, the finance manager of Eden Springs Hellas, is facing a problem of price erosion in the Greek water cooler market. Prices per bottle have decreased year-over-year from 2004 to 2006. Compared to other European countries, Greece has among the lowest water cooler prices. This intense price competition is due to many new small players entering the market and failing to collaborate on price increases. Customers also see water coolers as a commodity and are attracted only by price discounts. As a result of the lower prices, Eden Springs is struggling to generate sufficient cash flow to support further growth and satisfy shareholders. Saperas raises questions about developing a long-term strategy to change perceptions of the value of water cooler services
