Thomas is the sole survivor of a disease that killed everyone else in the world a year ago, including his mother and family. He reflects on being alone and having to survive on his own, proving his family wrong who used to joke he couldn't live independently. He wakes up and searches the empty house for food but finds none, staring blankly in the mirror as he wonders why he was immune to the disease and survived when no one else did.

1. Thomas (V/O): It’s been a year since
everyone in the world died. Well as far as I
know.
My mom was one of the first; it was
horrible going home and seeing her lying
there, lifeless.
Everyone else started to go in the next few
months. The rest of my family, my friends,
everyone. I knew it was my turn soon, but
it just didn’t happen.
No one knew what this disease was, or
how it affected so many people. Scientists
or didn’t doctors didn’t even have a chance
to try and figure it out they died to quickly.
But why didn’t it kill me? Why am I
immune? Why me?
My family always used to joke about how I
wouldn’t survive living on my own, I always said I
could. They said I was too lazy and dependent on
others. Obviously they meant living on my own in
a house, where I would have to pay my own bills
and cook my own meals. They didn’t mean it like
this literally; at least I proved them wrong. After
all the movies about apocalyptic events and
diseases you would think we would be prepared,
but no. Actually, this was nothing like the movies,
there were no zombie attacks, no big explosions,
nothing…it was just me. Alone. (bedroom door
slams)
Fades in
Camera slowly starts to focus on Thomas’
face he slowly awakens.
W/S as he sits in bed rubbing his eyes

W/S into a M/S as he descends down the
stairs and into the kitchen
