Production

Producer - oversees and delivers a film project to the film studio or other financing entity,
while preserving the integrity, voice and vision of the film. They will also often take on some
financial risk by using their own money, especially during the pre-production period, before a
film is fully financed. Many film producers also obtain competency in other fields (directors,
screenwriters, actors) but that is not always the case.

Screen Writer –a person who writes a screenplay

Production Assistant –a person responsible for various aspects of a production. The job of a
PA can vary greatly depending on the budget and specific requirements of a production as
well as whether or not the production is unionized.

Directing

Director - person who directs the actors and film crew in filmmaking. They control a
film's artistic and dramatic aspects, while guiding the technical crew and actors.
First Assistant Director-has overall AD responsibilities and supervises the Second AD. The
"first" is directly responsible to the director and "runs" the floor or set. The 1st AD and the unit
production manager are two of the highest "below the line" technical roles in filmmaking (as
opposed to creative or "above the line" roles) and so, in this strict sense, the role of 1AD is
non-creative.

Second Assistant Director - creates the daily call sheets from the production schedule, in
cooperation with the production coordinator. The "second" also serves as the "backstage
manager", liaising with actors, putting cast through make-up and wardrobe, which relieves the
"first" of these duties. Supervision of the third assistant director, third assistant director,
assistant director trainees, and the setting of background (extras) are parts of the "second's"
duties.
Sound

Production Sound Mixer–The Production Sound Mixer is head of the sound department on
set, responsible for recording all sound during filming. This involves the choice and
deployment of microphones, operation of a sound recording device, and sometimes the
mixing of audio signals in real time.

Boom Operator -The Boom Operator is an assistant to the Production Sound Mixer,
responsible for microphone placement and movement during filming.

Camera

Director of Photography – the person who is responsible for all operations concerning
camerawork and lighting during the production of a film.

Focus puller – – his job is to maintain image sharpness on whatever subject or action is
being filmed.
Clapper Loader – his job is to load the raw film stock into camera magazines, marking the
actors as necessary, and maintaining all records and paperwork for the camera department.

Gaffer -is an electrician who is in control of the Sparks

Spark – handle all of the electrical needs as well as place and focus all of the lighting under
the direction of the Gaffer

Grip – his job is to work closely with the Electrical Department to put in the non-electrical
components of lighting set-ups required for a shot, such as flags, overheads, and bounces.

Design

Production Designer – is the person responsible for the overall look of a filmed event such as
films, TV programs, video games, music videos or adverts. Production designers have one of
the key creative roles in the creation of motion pictures and television. Working directly with
the director and producer, they must select the settings and style to visually tell the story.

Production Designer Assistant -assist in the production office or in various departments
with general tasks

Costume/Make up - Costume design is the fabrication of apparel for the overall appearance
of a character or performer.

Caterer- is responsible for supplying food

Post-Production

Editor –works with the raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences to
create a finished motion picture. Film editing is described as an art or skill, the only art that is
unique to cinema, separating filmmaking from other art forms that preceded it, although there
are close parallels to the editing process in other art forms like poetry or novel writing.

Assistant Editor – editing room crewmember responsible for providing logistical assistance
to the editor. Duties vary, depending on whether picture or sound is being edited.
