2. The, The Inner World Of The Outcast
Essay 1: Fantastical Realities in the works of Tim Burton I get so tired of people saying, Oh,
you only make fantasy films and this and that , I m like Well no, fantasy is reality , that s what
Lewis Carroll showed in his work, spoke animator, writer, producer, and director Tim Burton in
regards to the themes of depression, isolation, and fear within his collection of work. Influenced by
Gothic fiction and the art and film movements of Expressionism, Surrealism, and Noir, Burton
crafts the inner world of the outcast and explores the ideas of Jungian and Freudian psychoanalysis
in his films, particularly in Vincent (1982), Beetlejuice (1988), and Edward Scissorhands(1990).
This paper will explore Burton s aesthetics of chiaroscuro lighting, color symbolism, and
composition to recreate the realism of human emotions through the eyes of a misunderstood
character s solitude in a highly fantastical world. Burton breaks conventions of narrative Hollywood
cinema and focuses less on the script, but largely on the psyche of the character and the visual outer
world that portrays their inner anxieties. Although, Burton s films are directly influenced by the
work of Fritz Lang, F.W. Murnau, Robert Wiene, and Salvador Dali, he creates his own auteur style
by mapping out the psychological journey of his characters through symbolic hand drawn concept
and costume designs that mirrors his own struggles of displacement throughout his life. In Tim
Burton s 1982 debut children s horror

3. Descriptive Essay For Softball
Since I was a little girl my dream was to always play the highest level of softball as possible. I
wanted to be the best pitcher there ever was. The first position I ever learned to play was also
the one that almost ended my softball career. Starting out in little league the pitcher is required
to wear a batting helmet while playing the pitching position. This is for ages normally 5 and
under, at this age the girls are still using pitching machines or coach pitch. As the older the girls
get the rules change, no face mask or helmet has to be worn while pitching. As for me I hated
wearing face mask, I always had an excuse to not wear it. Who would ve thought that it would one
day save my life.
My mom and I are both as stubborn as a mule. We both want to get our own ways, and most of
the time our ways are polar opposites from one another. So therefore one of us has to give and
me being the child 95% of the time it s me. When it came to softball most of the time are
arguments were about when and when not I should have to wear a face mask. My main two
positions are first base and pitcher. These two positions require fast reaction time as well does
third base. This is because while the pitcher is in her wind up the first and third basemen are
creeping closer towards the batter to be ready to field a bunt or a ground ball. This is not always
the case though, sometimes when the batter is squared up to bunt we crash towards the batter as
fast as we can and countless of the times they

4. Relationship Between Body Mass Index And Gender
The first Chi Square analysis I ran is to determine a relationship between Body Mass Index(BMI)
and Gender. The P Value is 0.202744 while the level of significance is 0.05. This led to non
significance. The second chi square analysis I ran is to determine a relationship between being
on a sports team or with BMI. The P Value is 0.574058 while the level of significance is 0.574.
This means the data was non significant. The third chi square analysis I ran is to determine if
there is a relationship between having friends who exercise and the college students feeling
towards running. The Chi Square number is 5.43 with a P value of 0.019. This led to
significance between the two data points. I ran a regression analysis to see if gender, being on a
sports team, or the amount of time you exercise per week influences GPA. The P Value for
gender is 0.072, while the P Value for being on a sports team is 0.020. With a level of
significance of 0.05 these two data points were significant. The amount of times exercised per
week P Value is 0.64, while I am looking for a level of significance of 0.05. This led the results to
be non significant for times exercised per week and GPA. In the introduction, I stated that I
expect those who exercise to have a lower GPA than those who don t. I felt this because I think if
you work out you will have less time to study or focus on school work. After running a regression
analysis, I found that there was no relationship between the two. The

5. Lucy Family Tree
The most famous member of the human family tree was a fossil named Lucy . Lucy was a fossil
discovered in 1974, and named after the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds . Lucy
lived some 3.2 million years ago. She belonged to the species Australopithecusafarensis ( Bower)
Lucy was a hominid, that means she came from the same family as our most recent ancient
relatives and humans. The reason for being such a famous member of the family tree is because it
is one of the few full skeletons of our most recent ancient relatives. Lucyplays a great role in our
study of human evolution. A recent study has revealed how we think Lucy died 3.2 million years
ago. We now believe that Lucy fell to her death from a large tree. The studies show... Show more

7. The Importance Of Family Bonds And Support
The Importance of Family Bonds and Support Every day in America individuals are sentenced
either at a state, local, or federal level. The U.S. Department of Justice stated in 2014 an estimated
6,851,000 persons were under the supervision of U.S. correctional system (Kaeble, Glae and
Minton). With this staggering number, America has become the country that incarcerates more of
their people than any other country in the world. Due to these extreme circumstances, the
correctional system affects children by at staggering rates in our country. Although not every
prisoner has children, one can assume that half of the nation s prisoners have at least one child.
This simple deduction would leave 3,425,000 with an incarcerated parent. During childhood, the
impact a parent has on a child s emotional and mental shapes their daily lives. When a child faces
life with an incarcerated parent, they face separation for a period of months to years. Given the
amount of children affected by the correctional system in our country, maintaining parental bonds
should be a priority. According to an article published by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, when a
child faces separation from their parents, they do so in silence (Czebiniak). With fear of rejection
from peers and their community, these children bravely live their lives with broken hearts silently.
They face a multitude of fears about their current situation and their futures. Often children with
incarcerated parents hear they will become

8. James Brown Monument Dbq
In today s society, we try to remember every little thing that happens, from the first day of school
to the graduation of college. One of the ways we try to remember things is through photos.
However, photos and just natural memory are not enough. In our lives extraordinary events are
done by extraordinary people, and tragedies strike our nation. Those people and events deserve to
get recognized by more than a simple photo or a hazy memory. The process that is used to select a
memorialare proper place, sensitivity of memorial, materials used, and the design itself.
A major question to ask is if the monument is being put in the proper place. Would you want a statue
of George Washington in the middle of a Native American Reserve? I think not. Having the proper
place is essential to making sure that the person/event is being respected properly. A great example
of this is the James Brown Statue that is located in downtown Augusta. It is placed in the walkway
that is breaks up Broad Street. As far as the statue being in Augusta that is the proper... Show more

Sensitivity affects how people feel and view memorials, and it is chanced upon in some cases
what is politically correct. An example of this the Savannah Memorial Park which dedicated to
pioneers. Many feel as though it brings bad luck (Source D). This is a superb example because
the whole reason they wanted to get rid of it is purely based on how they feel, and there appears to
be no other apparent reason. Another example is Mount Rushmore, yes the great Mount Rushmore.
Before Mount Rushmore, that land belonged to the Sioux (Native Americans). They were driven
from their land. That mountain is considered sacred and holy to them. The American people have
just defaced the property that initially belonged to them. How do you think they felt? They would
be extremely hurt not only from having to leave their land, but also an import at part of their
culture was destroyed (Source

9. Symptoms And Treatment Of Vascular Closure
Background
Vascular closure devices following cardiac catherization through the femoral artery have been
gaining significant traction since its use in the mid 1990s. Compared to the previous gold standard
of manual compression, VCDs allow for shortened time to ambulation, decreased duration of
hospitalization post procedure, and increased patient comfort. The devices have also shown
safeness comparable to manual compression. Despite the many advantages and variety of devices
available, there are still complications to take into account. More common issues include device
failure, bleeding, and hematoma. Less common but more serious complications include infection,
ischemia, limb loss, and death.

Due to these findings patient was directly admitted to the hospital and placed on a heparin drip. On
physical exam patient had absent pulses below the right femoral artery. However, there was no
discoloration, change of temperature, or sensory as well as motor deficits of the right lower
extremity. Patient was taking a low dose aspirin and red yeast rice for cholesterol management at
that time.
The following morning the patient underwent successful angioplasty of the right common femoral
artery with thrombectomy and a 6 x 20 mm balloon angioplasty, reducing a 90% stenosis to less
than 30%. A spider catheter was deployed to perform the thrombectomy, however an atrial blazer
catheter failed to retrieve the spider device as it was unable to completely collapse. As a result the
patient was taken to the OR for vascular surgery. The spider basket was retrieved through the wall
of the common femoral artery with its contents.
The specimen was sent to pathology, which noted a foreign body device surrounded by soft tissue
attached to the spider device. The foreign body was noted to be a Angio Seal plug from the left heart
catheterization that had been presumed a thrombus.
Discussion
Promising results have shown that the Angio seal VCD has excellent efficacy and safety after
routine catheterization and intervention. However, clear indications of use and risk of
complications need to be evaluated and monitored.

10. Pangaea Research Paper
Pangaea
We believe that earth was one and all the continents were all together together then something
happened that split them up.About 300 million years ago, Earth didn t have seven continents, but
instead one huge supercontinent called Pangaea, which was surrounded by a single ocean called
Panthalassa. Beyond that, the details get fuzzy. While the heat formed in the mantlelikely comes
from the when a radioactive substance breaks down of unstable elements, such as uranium,
scientists don t agree on whether there are mini pockets of heat flow within the mantle, or if the
whole shell is one big heat conveyor belt.
The supercontinent began to break apart about 200 million years ago.
The explanation for Pangaea s (creation and construction/ group of objects) brought in the modern
explanation of plate (the study of Earth s surface plate movement), which suggests says that the
Earth s outer shell is broken up into (more than two, but not a lot of) plates that slide over Earth s
rocky shell, the mantle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chile, along with China and Norway, is one of the largest seafood exporters in the world (Smith). It

conflicts forced the indigenous peoples to form small groups and learn to rely on each other. The
most prominent social groups that you find today in Chile are sports clubs and church related

12. Ruby And Sapphire Character Analysis
Indeed, it can be argued that, since Ruby and Sapphire are in a romantic relationship, there is no
need to include other and different types of LGBT couples. Pearl is in love with Rose but is
ultimately rejected as her romantic interest is assimilated into the heteronormative, leaving her
bitter and resentful. Therefore, if, on one hand, the otherness of Rose as an alien is assimilated
and normalized as she enters the heteronormative by beginning a relationship with the human
male character Greg, Pearl s deviousness as not only alien but also homosexual character
condemns her to remain unhappy and alone. Still bound to her idealized vision of Rose and
unable to overcome her issues, Pearl develops a crush for a human that looks just like her lost
lover: the mysterious girl of Last One out of Beach City. Their story, however, has not been

Biographical Connection: Barbara Kingsolver was born on April 8, 1955 in Annapolis, Maryland
and during her seventh and eight years of life she spent in the Republic of Congo where her parents
worked there as healthcare officials. During her time there, she kept a diary documenting how
different and curious everything was compared to Maryland. She was mostly fascinated how these
people could live so peacefully and happily without certain necessities that she considered necessary,
such as running water, electricity, supported shelter, plumbing, and so on. She concluded that due
to the different cultures one thing was not to be expected from the other; this is a continuous theme
found in her novel, The Poisonwood Bible. However, Kingsolver... Show more content on

Kingsolver subtly presents the colonialism she and many other Americans took part of by
stating, In the year of our Lord 1960 a monkey barreled through space in an American rocket; a
Kennedy boy took the chair out from under a fatherly general named Ike; and the whole world
turned on an axis called the Congo. The monkey sailed right overhead, and on a more earthly
plane men in locked rooms bargained for the Congo s treasure. But I was there. Right on the head
of that pin (Kingsolver 8).
Genre and Characteristics
The genre The Poisonwood Bible falls into is historical fiction and postcolonial fiction.
Characteristics/Genre: Historical fiction is a literary genre in which past events are formulated
from genuine, factual history, but the plot of the story and characters are merely fictional.
Postcolonial fiction is a literary genre in which appropriation of colonial language thus African is
integrated and colonialism subtly attributed. Also, valorization, cultural identity, and racism is often
found.
The work meets the criteria of these two genres since The Poisonwood Bible is a story about a
white colonial family who moves to the Congo in order to impose the Baptist faith. The story takes
place in Africa during the 1960 s when the United States, Belgium, and the Congo Crisis of 1960
was occurring. The history integrated in the book is completely factual;

The word Wa in Japanese can be applied to Theory Z because they both deal with promoting
partnerships and group work. The word Wa means a perfect circle or harmony, which influences
Japanese society to always be in teams and to come to a solution together. Promoting Theory Z

the Japanese show a high level enthusiasm to work, some of the researchers claim that Z in the

Ouchi wrote a book called Theory Z How American Business Can Meet the Japanese Challenge
(1981), in this book; Ouchi shows how American corporations can meet the Japanese challenges
with a highly effective management style that promises to transform business in the 1980 s. The
secret to Japanese success, according to Ouchi, is not technology, but a special way of managing
people. This is a managing style that focuses on a strong company philosophy, a distinct corporate
culture, long range staff development, and consensus decision making (Ouchi, 1981). Ouchi shows
that the results show lower turn over, increased job commitment, and dramatically higher
productivity.

the American companies but he takes Japanese business techniques and adapts them to the
American corporate environment. Much like McGregor s theories, Ouchi s Theory Z makes certain

Vengeance is punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong. So is it ever
really right, weather morally right or just all together right? Everyone has their reasons some no
one understand. But in other cases we feel as if we were in that situation we would have done
things the same way. In BeowulfI think Grendel s mother was morally right in seeking vengeance.
I believe that Grendel s mother was right for many reasons. If you were a mother who just lost a
child you would have hate in you heart, you would want the person who caused the lost of your
child to pay for what he or she has done. You would want them to feel just as much pain as you
did. So just think how Grendel s mother felt to find out her son had been killed.

: The United States of America is a large country with a huge internal market. The U.S has 24
hours a day 7 days a week as well as a global economy. American companies are to be found
worldwide and outsourcing to distant countries is daily practice. A small percentage of Americans
travel across the oceans separating the USA from the rest of the world. Thus, Americans who work
nearly across borders but who live in the United Statesare not always aware of the enormous
differences in the way other countries do business.

24. Educating Rita and the Devil Wears Prada Speech Into the...
The society we live in distorts our own unique desires and goals. When in a workplace or
community it puts more pressure and expectation on individuals goals, warping them until a point
where one identifies what they truly want and breaks the mould and expectations of society to do
this. Examining texts such as Educating Ritaand The Devil Wears Prada in addition to my own
personal experience will bring forth an understanding of how society affects growing up and
transition into new phases of life into a larger world. The text Educating Rita is set Britain in the
1970 s, where a woman s role was to have a family and look after it by staying at home and in the

Rita always purchases new dresses to cheer her up, but now realises she is not content with it.
She stresses to Frank that It s like me isn t it? Buying new dresses all the time, isn t it? The
rhetorical questions and repetition enhance reflection on her learning and aim to move out of the
stereotype. In new second hand clothes this is symbolic of the ease she has in the middle class and
shows juxtaposition of new second hand clothes. This has highlighted how she has changed and
matured into the middle class and doesn t require materialistic needs like a dress to satisfy her
depression.
Rita in Educating Rita mirrors the same growth and change as Andrea in The Devil Wears Prada .
It is a 2006 film in times where individuals are controlled by the capitalist world and times where
pleasing your boss was the only ambition. Andrea is easily manipulated to suit her social context
and expectations of her boss. This is shown through the change in her values overtime highlighting
her new appreciation for fashion which is negatively affecting her relationships with her friends.
Andrea then grows enough to come to realisation that she is controlled by the materialistic needs of

The strategic value of QC process in the mortgage industry
THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF THE QUALITY CONTROL PROCESS IN THE MORTGAGE
INDUSTRY (2003) The mortgage industry has originated record loan volumes month after month
for the last three years. The sub prime segment in particular has greatly benefited from the boom in
the housing market buoyed by interest rates that have approached historical lows. However a
second condition is critical to explaining the dramatic expansion of the sub prime segment: the
unprecedented access to large amounts of financial resources which has been leveraged to fund
lenders growth. Institutional investors reacted to equity markets far more unpredictably than in the
bubble years by redirecting a greater share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fair and correct application of appraisal rules 2. Consistency between appraised and market
values. In the new QC model all submitted appraisals were reviewed to detect errors or
inconsistencies that identify riskier appraisals. When anomalies were detected, appraisals were
sent to the next control stage for a more thorough and sophisticated analysis. At the end of each
stage, appraisals were scored based on the number and severity of the anomalies detected. The
overall score allowed the lender to develop an appraiser specific risk profile that was then aso
leveraged to make grounded decisions about future appraisals submitted by the same appraiser. The
system introduced relied on an enterprise document management solution (EDM) to further
improve the efficiency of the QC process. By leveraging the EDM s queue management
functionalities the lender implemented a system that allowed QC managers to coordinate the
workload balancing activities among multiple locations. Furthermore, providing QC analysts from
different offices with the ability to access appraisal files helped the client improve the quality of
the analysis by taking advantage of reviewers experience and/or specific geographical market

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the leading causes of disability and work absence globally,

Whilst the prevalence of LBP is high, with over 70 percent of people experiencing some LBP at
some point during their lives, most will resolve within a few months (Campbell et al, 2013).

Previous research has identified pain characteristics and beliefs as well as fear avoidance beliefs as
potential predictors of the development of chronic pain. Waddel et al (1993) found that fear
avoidance beliefs accounted for 23 percent of the variance in disability in ADL s and 26% of
variance in work loss, after controlling for pain. Fear avoidance beliefs in relation to physical
activity have been shown to be predictive of increased disability in older adults with chronic LBP
(Camacho Soto et al, 2012). In a large scale 5 year longitudinal UK study of 488 patients to
determine prognostic factors that predict pain and disability, two key predictive factors identified
were pain intensity and the belief that pain would persist (Campbell et al, 2013).
Given the contribution of fear avoidance beliefs to the development of chronic pain and
disability, in this study we sought to explore predictors of fear avoidance beliefs. Despite the
brevity of the FABQ PA, in local clinical practice, the administration of the FABQ is often difficult
due to language barriers and difficulty with the rating scale. Therefore the purpose of the this study
was to investigate possible predictors of fear avoidance beliefs from information commonly derived

live where slavery existed. People learned about the Peculiar Institution by other white writers,
never truly knowing what the slaves thought. What did the slaves experience under bondage and
what was their image about slavery? The slaves experienced a variety of harmful acts from the
whites and they felt robbed and horrified by the whites actions. For example, slave families were
split apart by different means by their masters. For another example, the slaves were forbidden to
be educated and told to be obedient. Also, they were not allowed to pray, but they took comfort in

Helen s Judgement of Paris and Greek Marriage Ritual in Sappho 16, an article written by Eric
Dodson Robinson from Johns Hopkins University, explores how Homer s writings and Greek
marriage rituals feed into the meaning of Sappho s sixteenth fragment. Primarily through exploring
the parallel roles of the characters in Sapphos fragment and Homeric tales, Dodson Robinson
begins to decipher what is beautiful in Sappho s eyes. Exploring the subjective role of Helen in the
poem, the author reveals how abducting Helen could be a possible reference to archaic Greek
marriage ritual. Ultimately, it concludes that the relationship between traditional judgment roles
and desire are far more complex than it seems. Written By Ilja Leonard... Show more content on

The syntax of these particular lines adds to the anticipation of the audience. The naval and military
imagery creates an expectation of a subject that reflects these first lines, not beauty and love. In fact,
the first few lines make the reader expect the opposite of what the poem is going to suggest. This
surprise becomes important for a piece that is orally performed because it generates attention,
which creates an appeal to the ear and perception of linear succession (Pfeiffjer 3). Sappho,
cutting against the harsh beauty of the military, reveals that it is what one most loves that is the
most beautiful. This exclamation of love makes the reader expect an immediate explanation of
who or what Sappho places this love in, but it is not revealed until later in the poem. Surprise
combines with suspense and from the moment Sappho begins, the audience expects her object of
love to be revealed (Pfeiffjer 3). There is, however, a difference between the two translations. In
Mary Barnard s translation, the course of the priamel is broken into two different stanzas, putting
more emphasis on the establishment of the militaristic expectation the reader suspects. Yet, in Anne
Carson s translation of the poem the lines about the military are in groups, followed by the line
what you love set alone, drawing attention to the different tone being established (Carson 4). Where
Carson succeeds in emphasizing Sappho s point, Barnard fails. Yet, where

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a British physician and writer, mostly well known for his stories
Sherlock Holmes , which are generally in the field of crime fiction. He was a prolific writer whose
other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays and romances, poetry, and non
fiction.
In the following paragraphs I will be talking about the three stories Red Headed League , Silver
Blaze and scandal in Bohemia .
The story Scandal in Bohemia starts of very odd, To Sherlock Holmes, she is always the woman .
This has already given the reader a hint of suspense as it is something unusual. It was always
thought that Holmes had no feelings and no emotions for anyone, but according to this opening the

Here the horse shoe was given to Holmes, but the reader did not know that it will be in great use,
but Doyle gives hints in the story, which he eventually pieces together, as well as the reader.
Another way Doyle creates suspense in his stories is that he makes deliberate culprits that seem
suspicious; straight away the readers will think they have found whoever Holmes is looking for,
but in the end the story is twisted around and the real offender is found the total opposite to what
the reader was probably thinking. In Silver Blaze, to everyone it seems as if Fitzroy Simpson was
the culprit but everyone soon found out that it was the actual horse Silver Blaze . No one would
have even thought of it to be the horse, so this one of the main ways suspense is created. Also it
has the readers guessing who the actual criminal is.
The story is told by Watson, not Holmes. Watson is never likely to be at the same thinking level
as Holmes. There are some parts which are kept secret from us, things that Watson does not
know, the reader also does not know. Holmes leaned forward and whispered something in the
trainer s ear . Here Holmes whispers something, so clearly he wants to keep it a secret from
Watson. This keeps the reader guessing what Holmes might have said; hence it creates suspense as
well as tension. However there are times when Watson is great help to Holmes, in Silver Blaze,
when Holmes

Review of Benching Jim Crow by Charles H. Martin If states are the laboratories of democracy,
then sports are the arena in which it is tested. This book serves as a review of racial integration and
the changing dynamics in sports from 1890 1980. Charles Martin aims for the reader to understand
why it was common place for white southerners to compete against non black ethnic minorities
(E.G. Native Americans, Chinese), but an issue when even a single African Americanwas on an
opposing team. Benching Jim Crow explains to the reader that the persistence of segregation lay
with overarching cultural mentalities left over from the Civil War, but shifts in position came from
external (financial), and internal (students and players). Though offering little insight into the legal
and political impacts of Jim Crow itself, Martin paints a detailed, but redundant, narrative of the

explains that Southern universities would rarely know the lineup of their competitors in the earlier
years of football, so these decisions were often made upon arrival. More likely than not, when a
southern school forfeited a match it would lay blame to the opposing team for not respecting its
long standing traditions and sensibilities. (18,

The 1700s in the Americas became a time of growth of independence and religious freedoms.
People began separating from the original religious sects and began searching for other ways of

more people to experience religion, allowing people to decide for themselves which way of worship

The Wheatley family purchased a young African girl, who was enslaved and sent to Boston. Her
owners named her Phillis after the ship carrying her overseas. The Wheatley family taught her to
read and write using the King James Bible. Wheatley utilized her education and began writing
poetry. At the age of twelve, she published her first poem, making her the first African American

international attention. This attention helped Phillis Wheatley publish a book of collected poems in
1773 including poems titled On Being Brought from Africa to America , and Thoughts on the
Works of Providence . Her early education not only focused on literacy, but religion, where it
played a large role in her poetry. Writing an elegy for Rev. Mr. George Whitefield, an evangelist
preacher who spoke to thousands of people to spread the word of God, portrayed Wheatley s
admiration for the preacher she had the opportunity to observe.

had been determined not to arouse; the United States. Provoked by the U.S. trade embargo Japan
attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. The next day the U.S.

they would protect one another if either one was attacked but otherwise would leave each other

war on the United States on December 11, 1941. Japan convinced Hitler to make this decision
based on the hope that Japan would help him out by attacking the Soviet Union. Hitler

In this paper, I will discuss Wasserstrom s arguments relating to the unimportance of gender and
how differentiating people based on their gender promotes the harmful ideology of sex roles. I will
then present Schlafly s arguments which regard the differences between men and women as
justifiable due to the fact that these differences are not only natural, but also practical and
obligatory, and show that they are inferior to Wasserstrom s arguments. I will argue this by
elaborating on Wassertrom s argument of how there is no such thing as natural while providing
reasons for why this is so. Firstly, Wasserstrom argues that assigning social roles to individuals
based on their sex in inherently unjust. According to him, assigning sex roles... Show more content

This can be described as what Engels describes a domestic slave. Furthermore, Wasserstrom
makes sure to introduce rebuttals to those who might say that a society would not be oppressive
if taught possible to have sex roles without one being dominant. Wasserstrom replies to this
statement by explaining how the sex roles we are all familiar with assign women with the
responsibility of having to take care of children and to be the primary household maintainer.
Wasserstrom declares these types of burdens to be excessive and must be shared equally
between both men and women. Another rebuttal that Wasserstrom prepares is for the people
who might still insist that the existence of sex roles is necessary if we were to suppose that the
work load was equal for men and women. The problem with this, according to Wasserstrom, is
that any set of sex roles would suppress an individual s unique talents and impair their ability to
develop their characteristics, capacities, and potential life plans. An example of how sex roles
oppress women in this way is how they have to take of children, as previously discussed, simply
because people believe that they can do it better. This responsibility keeps women away from their
interests and abilities. Men can easily be taught to take care of children as well. Just because one is

In The Paradise of the Bachelors and Tartarus of Maids Melville demonstrates how the oppressive
power of the upper class over the working class, molds and kill the social, emotional and physical
life of the working class while they benefit from it. Melville depicts how industrialism created an
economic separation of classes that although seemed unrelated and contradictory in their different
spaces, both sustained each other. The upper class, the bachelors, needed the labor of the lower
class to maintain the wealthy life they had and the lower class, the maids, survived with the small
wages gained with their labor. In order for the upper class to continuously enjoy their privilege,
they had to exploit in any way possible the working class.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

folders in their blank hands (12). He portrays these women as cadavers being preserved in this

the description of a physical death, then a social and emotional death.
Despite the economic distinction and living conditions that separated the bachelors and the maids,
they both have similarities. Though there are similarities, they only further expose the power of
the upper class over the working class. These similarities bring to our attention the topic

English 161W
ESSAY #1 (TOPIC #1) Over the past decades, the struggle for woman s emancipation has been one
of most controversial and eternal subject to prolong around the world. In fact, the continuation for
gender equality and self independence against the male dominant gender has become popular to the
extent that, it has inspired many writers and movie makers to integrate this historical context in to
their literary work and movies. As such, many fairytale writers have also perpetuated this cultural
message in various stories for children. For example, the story Cinderella, a classic bedtime story
for young children, has not only served as traditional fairy tale but legitimatize society s
expectations of young woman; it emphasize on the importance of the ultimate feminine beauty, the
expectations of women s etiquette, responsibilities, personal freedom and the dominant power of
the men from 1700 s to even the 20th century. Each variation of Cinderella; CinderellaНѕ Or, the

Alex Garland s 2015 directional debut Ex Machina explores ideas that are parallel to the themes
theorized in Donna Haraway s 1985 essay titled Cyborg Manifesto. Furthermore, both pieces of
work explore the relationship between humans and the machines that we create, in this case, a

experience is constructed, there is almost nothing to separate us form the machines we create.
The film also represents the borderlands in which cyborgs live in. The borderlands are the
productive spaces that are intended for research and the building of knowledge. In Ex Machina,
Nathan s compound is the borderland. To be more specific, the borderland is the room that he
confines his robot experiments to. As Caleb was watching the security footage of Nathan s past
experiments, he comes across a clip of one of the robots banging on the glass and asking why
can t she be released. Ava grew to hate Nathan because of the way he treated her and because she
was confined to the one room in the house. During the Ava Sessions, Caleb goes down to the
room and talks with Ava as part of the Turing test. Caleb and Ava talk through a translucent wall
and never come into physical contact throughout the entire film. Caleb is conducting his

Nathan can and will switch her off whenever he sees fit, acts as the catalyst of her desire to

For the reason that consumers only need to carry a mobile device rather than multiple forms of
paper and plastic, mobile wallets will be considerably useful. Also, because they can track users
shopping and purchases, mobile payment systems can offer advanced personal shopper services
such as endorsements and new deals based on one s location and past purchasing history.
According to a recent Pew Research survey, nearly 66 percent of participants believe their
smartphones will replace traditional payment options like credit cards and cash by 2020.
(Gramigna, K. 2015). Therefore, a few people do believe that they will be using their phones
instead of cash. Cash may not disappear completely, but it will not be used as much. As claimed
by those that doubt cash will truly disappear, mobile payments will never replace cash. Data from
Intuit shows that 55 percent of the nation s 27 million small businesses do not accept credit cards.
Despite study after study proving otherwise, many merchants believe it is too expensive to take
credit. Given this, the likelihood of those merchants adopting mobile payment technology in the
near future seems slim. (Quinn, M. 2014) It is too unlikely to expect cash payments to disappear
completely. Nowadays, pulling out your wallet for cash or using a credit card only takes a few
seconds. Opening a mobile wallet app, pulling up a QR code, or typing in a personal email

were being drafted and debated and countries pondered whether or not they would be a part of the
organization, representatives from a group of 17 nations assembled in Geneva and concluded an
interim agreement (GATT) to lower trade barriers and

how you handle your clients... indeed, even the presence of your business and its items. That is
on the grounds that your image is the identity and character of your association and everything
mirrors that personality... your logo, you re publicizing, your storefront. Think Mac PCs: at
whatever time you stroll into an Apple store, the office, its workers, the window shows...
everything says we re cool, we re inventive, we re on the front line. Go to any Wafer Barrel eatery
and everything says we re friendly, we re nation, and we serve corn meal. This permits the client
to associate on an individual level. The purpose of marking is to offer clients an unmistakable
decision. In the event that you detest nation home cooking you avoid Wafer Barrel. On the off

This would create and elastic effect on the corn market because the huge demand for corn oil
will remain the same but with the discovery corn for energy it has made it a hot commodity and
very profitable amongst farmers therefore corn oil would take a back seat for now until other
resources can be used to produce energy. These farmers are going to slow down their
productions of corn for corn oil and increase the production of corn for energy because it is the
more profitable thing to do and its makes perfect business sense. Now the demand for the corn
oil remains the same, but the productions for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that
farmers and corn producers will need to raise the price of corn for corn products so they will be
able to stay on the market longer and have a longer shelf life until another year or harvest comes
around.
