Genetic counselling provides advice to prospective parents about genetic disorders in their future children. It involves meeting with a genetic counsellor, who is a medical professional trained in genetics, genetic counselling, and clinical genetics. The genetic counsellor evaluates a family's medical and genetic history to determine genetic risks and counsels them on how to react to potential risks. While awareness of genetic counselling is growing in Pakistan, there remains a need for more medical geneticists and clinical geneticists to provide these services.
