Crossing of cheques can be special or general. Special crossing involves writing the name of a specific banker on the cheque, directing the paying banker to only pay that named banker. General crossing involves drawing two parallel transverse lines on the cheque without naming a banker. A cheque can also be doubly crossed by naming two bankers, though paying bankers are only supposed to pay a doubly crossed cheque if the second banker is an agent of the first. Only the drawer of a cheque can open or cancel a crossing. Endorsement allows the negotiation and transfer of order instruments and involves signing the back or face of the instrument. There are different types of endorsements like blank, special, restrictive, partial, and conditional.
