Sinterklaas is celebrated in the Netherlands on December 5th. Sinterklaas and his helper, Black Peter, arrive in the Netherlands mid-November each year. On the night of December 5th, children leave carrots, sugar cubes, and wish lists in their shoes by the chimney for Sinterklaas and Black Peter to fill with presents and candy during the night. Sinterklaas has been a tradition for over 350 years and even has his own postage stamp.
