3. Why have an award ?
• Recognise and acknowledge the outstanding care
provided by our staff in the Mater Hospital on a daily
basis
• Provide a platform to celebrate and share all that is
best in our Hospital
• The award was created to give special recognition to
those individuals who consistently demonstrate high
quality care, displaying “Caring at its best”
• Open to anyone, in any role, whether clinical or non-
clinical, within the hospital can be nominated.

4. Criteria for Award
• Awarded to the individual staff member who is deemed to provide
a consistently high quality service and who demonstrates the
following:
• Commitment to the Hospital’s Mission and Core Values, (see
attached poster)
• Displays effort and dedication over and above the call of duty
• Continuously strives to improve performance in their area of
responsibility
• Goes the extra mile in helping patients, visitors and colleagues
• Portrays a positive ‘can do’ attitude, and is friendly, thoughtful, and
considerate
• Communicates effectively and is caring, compassionate, courteous
and professional at all times

5. How is a Staff member nominated ?
• “Do you work with a colleague or is there a
member of staff whose work inspires you,
who lives out the Mater’s Mission Statement,
and who demonstrates the above
characteristics and values in his/her daily work
in the hospital”
