Vedan, a Vietnamese food company, was fined over $300,000 for repeatedly discharging untreated wastewater over the legal limits into the Thi Vai River from 2008, polluting the local environment. An investigation found 10 failures by Vedan to properly treat wastewater and comply with environmental regulations, including discharging wastewater 10 times higher than permitted levels from various plants. The ministry sanctioned Vedan and required them to pay additional environmental protection fees.
