Editor's Notes

  • #2 You probably don't know it yet but search engines are becoming answer engines. It means that instead of throwing a bunch of links at you, they’re delivering precise, context-aware answers. This shift is due to semantic search. Unlike the old days of keyword-matching, semantic search digs deeper. It looks at intent, context, and meaning of information-seeking. This is a salient change for you as business because it means that your content isn’t just there to rank anymore. When done right, your content becomes an asset, it drives discoverability, it helps you to build trust with people, and of course it helps you bringing in more income. A big part of this evolution is the concept of semantic triples which I’ll break it down for you in a simple way that shows exactly why it matters for you. I’ll start with describing what is a semantic triple, then I will explain why it matters to use them in your web content creation and I will end up with how you can use them, to improve both your content and SEO. Before I’ll get into it, I want to inform you that I deliberately omit to develop more technical aspects of triple so as not to disturb your understanding of the subject.
  • #4 If I want to remain simple I can say that a Semantic triple is considered as a way to represent web content in a meaningful and structured form that Search Engines can easily understand. We will see that Semantic Triple has, indeed, a particular structure which lies on the presence of just as particular components.
  • #5 A semantic triple has, by definition, 3 components. It takes its shape from a Subject, that is represented by an entity as a Person, a Date or a Book title for cited few examples.
  • #6 The second component of a Semantic Triple is called predicate. He’s here to create a bond between the first and the third components. That’s why it has mostly a verb form. Yet In some context the predicate can also be a Noun, an Adjective or a preposition.
  • #7 The third and last component is the Object. It is the thing connected to the subject by the predicate.
  • #8 Semantic Triples can have 2 forms. A simple and a complexe one. It all depends on the context in which we want to produce web content.
  • #9 As we already seen from earlier, the basic form of a semantic triple implies a subject, a predicate and an object. Simple triples focus on direct, standalone relationships. Here Keir Starmer is the subject, leads the predicate and Labour Party, obviously the object.
  • #10 Here you can see an example of a complexe triple. As you have surely noticed, you have the basic form of a Semantic Triple whose we add one more predicate and object. Complex triples embed additional context or relationships and help in creating deeper meaning.
  • #11 Now I think you have a better understanding and visualisation of what a semantic triple is, it’s time to understand why she is important for web content,
  • #12 The first benefit of Semantic Triples is that they provide a framework which help you keep the meaning of your ideas. The structure provided in the sentence “the cat chases the mouse” makes it easier for readers to understand your message.
  • #13 While here, by changing the predicate, we blur the context and meaning of the phrase. We don’t know anymore why the cat runs after the mouse. Is he playing with him, Is he chasing him ?
  • #14 And the same goes for Search Engines where they will work on find out what is in relation to what. And of course why that relationship exist.
  • #15 Note that the clearer your web content will be by using semantic triple, the more chance your pages will show up on Search Result pages for the search queries you want to rank on.
  • #17 IMO the first function of triple in web content creation is to form phrase frameworks. With a bit of practice you can create content faster and remain meaninfgul.
  • #18 The second function of a triple can be that of anchor text. An old SEO practice consists of using search queries as anchor text. Even though it still works, I think it’s more effective nowadays to use phrases as anchor text. This aligns better with the need for context and meaning. Using just one or two words doesn’t provide enough information for either search engines or users about the page they’re being redirected to. On the other hand, with a full phrase, the "teasing"—to draw a parallel with cinema—offers much more context. It can also encourage clicks more effectively, and resonates with Navboost principles.
  • #19 The framework of semantic triple can be helpful to create semantic clusters. For example, you can have as subject and predicate : Yoga improves and then develop cluster based on that. Yoga improves flexibility, Yoga improves posture, Yoga improves sleep etc…
  • #20 Conversely Semantic Triple can also be used to identify content gaps. Within a page where you argue about yoga improves health, you might find out you’ve missed the triple yoga improves immune system which could then be used as phrase anchor text for linking to another related page.
