Positively charged ions are called cations;
negatively charged ions are called anions.
Ionic impurities can seriously affect the

buildup of scale or deposits formed by these
impurities can lead to catastrophic tube
failures, costly production losses, and
unscheduled downtime. Hardness ions, such
as calcium and magnesium, must be removed

Demineralization or Deionization is the process of removing mineral salts from water by using the ion exchange
process. With most natural water sources it is possible to use Demineralisation and produce water of a higher quality
than conventional distillation. A Typical two-bed DM Plant consists of two MS Rubber lined Pressure vessels FRP
Vessels/SS 316 Vessel connected in series along with its internal fittings. The first unit consists of high capacity
strongly acidic cation exchange resin, which converts positive ions of salt and replaces them with hydrogen ions to
form respective acids, which are absorbed in next vessel by strongly basic anion exchange resin. The water obtained
by this process shows conductivity less than 20 µ S / cm at 25 Deg C and total dissolved solids less than 10 ppm.

Ultrafiltration (UF) is similar to RO and

to 100 psig (0.7 to 6.9 bars). UF removes

The anaerobic reactor is a "Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket
Reactor" (UASB). This reactor type is very well suited for
wastewater. The wastewater enters the reactor through a well
designed distribution system and is distributed equally over the
bottom of the reactor. This favours the formation of granules
and well settling flocs. Subsequently, the wastewater rises in an
up flow mode through an expanded bed of anaerobic active
methanogenic sludge and leaves the reactor at the top through a
gas/collection device that separates the mixed liquor into
clarified wastewater, gas and sludge. This "three phase
separator" (on top of this reactor) is of the cross flow type and
is also equipped with parallel plates. Both these characteristics
result in a significant improvement of the sludge separation
efficiency.
