The female sex cell is called the
                 ovum/ova.
• The Ovum is one of the largest cells in the human body.
 Measuring appoximately 0.12 mm in diameter.

• Produced in the ovaries.


• All ova are present at birth.
Ovary

an ovum.
After the ovum is released during
ovulation fimbriae catch and direct it to the
fallopian tube.
If the ovum is fertilized
by the male sex cell
(sperm), conception
takes place.
Once conception occurs
the fertilized ovum
travels to the uterus and
implants there. The
ovum is now refered to
as an embryo for
approximately 8
weeks.From them on it
is referred to as a fetus.
The organ in which the developing fetus
     resides is called the Uterus.
The time required for the development of
       a fetus is called gestation.
      10 weeks              30 weeks
GESTATION
Noarmal gestation takes 40 weeks. A baby
born before 37 weeks is considered
premature.
