Europe is on its way to generate and make use of more data than ever. The project PrepDSpace4Mobility aims at contributing to the development of the common European mobility data space by supporting the creation of a technical infrastructure that will facilitate easy, cross-border access to key data for both passengers and freight. Given the enormous potential of data and digital technologies, the project is expected to have a positive impact on European competitiveness, society, and the environment.
Workshop gathered suppliers and users of data, relevant research institutes, associations, initiatives, politics, as well as technology and service providers in data spaces to ensure appropriate representation.
We had successful workshop, and greatly appreciate your practical field expertise and interactive contributions.

What is a Building Block?
A basic unit or component that can be
implemented and combined with other building
blocks to achieve the functionality of a data
space.
https://dssc.eu/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/DSSC-Data-Spaces-Glossary-v1.0.pdf
A Building Block is an open and reusable digital
solution. It can take the shape of a framework,
a standard, a software, or a software as a
service (SaaS), or any combination thereof.

WP3 Task 3.4 - Building Blocks – Interoperability
T3.4 Identify common building blocks
Analyse, Specify, Identify, and Propose (technical and organizational)
building blocks, using published information and models, as well
as responses from the questionnaires (March – June)
Group interoperability: Ontologies, Semantics, Data
Models, Components descriptions, Data Exchange Protocols,
Tech standards (?), Workflows (?)
FhG, TNO, VTT, USI
• Many individual data sharing concepts exist
• Broad variety of sector specific vocabularies/semantics (Transport modes!)
• Consolidation/Standardisation is required
• Technical base of interoperability seems to be a minor problem
• Blueprint by DSSC should prescribe the generic standards

WP3 Task 3.4 - Building Blocks – Trust
T3.4 Identify common building blocks
Analyse, Specify, Identify, and Propose (technical and organizational)
building blocks, using published information and models, as well
as responses from the questionnaires (March – June)
•Group Trust: Identity Management, Access and Usage policies
(and tech), Security, Privacy Enhancing Technologies,
VTT, TNO, FhG, iSHARE
• Advanced Trust ensuring Features
available
• No sector specific functions expected
• Standardisation by DSSC awaited
• Usage control my need amendment

Editor's Notes
make an inventory of existing data platforms and marketplaces in the mobility and transport domains, describing their characteristics and components
analyse gaps of important mobility data currently not available for access and reuse,
specify common building blocks, including technical infra, governance and financial incentives
identify opportunities for integrating the mobility data space and data ecosystems in the emerging European data and cloud services infrastructure.
