Thousands of persons flee their homes because of wars, natural disasters, and persecutions in the hope of findings safer and better places for their survival. They cannot return to their homes because of safety concerns. Currently, there are millions of refugees across the globe, thereby leading to a crisis. The problem has been driven by the political instability in the Middle East, which as, in turn, provided the terrorist groups with the ideal conditions to conduct their activities. Also religious persecutions, such as the Rohingya Muslims problem in Myanmar have played a leading role in the increased number of refugees across the globe. Refugees experience numerous challenges upon leaving their homes. They are forced to live in tents in the camps where they lack access to basic needs and social amenities. Over the years, the United Nations through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) have been assisting these persons with the essential commodities. However, the increasing number of refugees implies that a single organization cannot sustain their needs alone.
Thesis statement: Thus, the global community needs to find collective approaches of solving the conflicts that affect international community to prevent persons from fleeing their homes and enabling those in the refugees’ camps to return to their homes.

My research proposal is about immigrants. Immigrants are people who leave their native country in order to seek a better future for them in a foreign country. In most cases, immigrants move from impoverished to developed countries. There are many reasons why immigrants decide to leave their home for a new one; these reasons include unemployment, civil war, political persecution, famine, among others. Some immigrants seek new countries on a temporary basis until they can build up finances and move back home while others move with an aim of setting up a permanent residence in their new country. Immigrants face many challenges in the course of their migration, if they cannot afford an air ticket they have to brave perilous traveling by vehicle or by ocean and once at their destination they have to contend with hostility from the citizens. We have to be sensitive to the plight of the immigrants, in order to make the world a better place.
Immigration is a force that has defined the United States of America and is continuing to mold our nation until now. In the seventeenth century, America experienced a wave of immigration from the European nations of Ireland, Italy, and Germany. These immigrants provided a boost to the economy of America, they provided cheap labor for the industries and established many enterprises some of which are present up to today. The nation of America, Canada and other European nations still experience heavy immigration into their borders (Hogarth, 2015).
In America’s election year, immigration is one of the hot topics debated by the presidential candidates. Politicians are prone to sugarcoating, and stating falsehoods in order to satisfy their agenda, it is important to research on immigrants in order to have a strong foothold of the facts of the matter (Shapiro & Vellucci, 2010). Furthermore, being more knowledgeable about immigrants will enable us to construct better policy that adequately addresses the issue of immigration rather than just deporting them, when they have sacrificed so much to make it to their new home.
I am interested in immigrants and immigration because it is one of the forces continuously shaping the world. It is the nature of man to seek always a better future. In the past, the forces that pushed immigration were famine and war, during famine people moved to productive areas, during war people moved to peaceful lands (Grikorenko, 2007). • Your essay should present a clear thesis, a several points about how media
representations of refugees and immigrants has changed over time.
• How would you describe the common understanding of refugees, communities and
citizenship in the U.S.? What role does media play? Would you change media
representation? How so?
PART 2: The Audio Project
You will produce a 2-3-minute audio statement for your classmates to hear. In this statement
you may respond to these questions:
o What do you think most people believe about refugees in the US?
o How do you think refugees and immigrants are represented in the media?
o What are your personal experiences with refugees or immigrants (if any)?
In summary, you will carefully consider how the media represents refugees and immigrants in

In 2015, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees accom-
modated over 15 million refugees, mostly in refugee camps in
developing countries. The World Food Program provided these
refugees with food aid, in cash or in kind. Refugees’ impacts on host
countries are controversial and little understood. This unique study
analyzes the economic impacts of refugees on host-country econo-
mies within a 10-km radius of three Congolese refugee camps in
Rwanda. Simulations using Monte Carlo methods reveal that cash
aid to refugees creates significant positive income spillovers to host-
country businesses and households. An additional adult refugee re-
ceiving cash aid increases annual real income in the local economy
by $205 to $253, significantly more than the $120–$126 in aid each
refugee receives. Trade between the local economy and the rest of
Rwanda increases by $49 to $55. The impacts are lower for in-kind
food aid, a finding relevant to development aid generally.

Recent events shed light on the growing number of refugeesdisplaced by conflicts around the world. The influx of Syrian
refugees to Europe is currently in the spotlight, but every year
the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR)
places thousands of people displaced by civil conflict or natural
disasters, which may be related to one another (1, 2), in refugee
camps across the globe (3), and the UN World Food Program
(WFP) provides refugees with food aid, in kind or cash. The
number of refugees under UN mandate reached an estimated
15.1 million in 2015, the highest level in 20 y (4). Most of these
refugees are in camps located in less-developed countries neigh-
boring the refugees’ country of origin.
Controversy surrounds the impacts of refugees on host econ-
omies (5–7). The popular perception might be that camps house
people who are helpless and dependent on food aid, but some
recent studies reveal that refugee populations are actively en-
gaged with host-country economies in an effort to improve their
circumstances (8). There is little reliable empirical evidence of
how refugees affect the economies of host countries. Some
studies suggest that refugees have no significant impact (9). Others
suggest heterogeneous impacts, with negative shocks more likely

Diversity has become a dominant issue in the social, political, and legal environments of American life. The United States, however, is not theonly country with an influx of newcomers into its diverse society. Throughout history, people around the world have traveled from theirhomelands to settle in other geographic regions. The arrival of foreign populations into an established culture compels both recent settlersand existing populations to examine long-held beliefs, values, norms, and behaviors.
Although the specific issues raised by new settlers may vary, common themes emerge as a society becomes more diverse. These themes caninclude:

In contrast, others move illegally following societal ills such as human trafficking, where they end up in social evils such as prostitution. Whether migrating through the right or wrong channels, deportation has far-reaching effects, especially with the involvement of parents. Right measures should be implemented in dealing with the issue of deportation.
Granting amnesty is one of the options that could be explored in dealing with the deportation of parents. Amnesty entails the granting of a formal legal status to individuals with an illegal residence in a country and is awaiting deportation. The issue of amnesty among immigrants is received with mixed reactions. While some political leaders use the amnesty programs as a means of benefiting themselves, the citizens of the country view the move as a means of suppressing their access to resources. According to Levy (2010), people in support of an amnesty program among the illegal migrants view the deportation of illegal immigrants as being an impractical move. The deportation process is hectic for both the officials and the involved parties. Levy (2010) noted that the deportation process is time-consuming, requires a lot of effort, and is labor-intensive.
The country would have to incur additional costs in trying to correct a situation created by people who failed to take their jobs seriously. Also, it is not a guarantee that all illegal immigrants would be successfully deported as some may escape detection, which means that the government goes through all that trouble for nothing. Instead, the government should use the challenge of illegal immigrants to its advantage. Numerous low-skilled employment positions are unfilled because Americans cannot fill the positions, despite being crucial to the nation's economy. • Your essay should present a clear thesis, a several points about how media
representations of refugees and immigrants has changed over time.
• How would you describe the common understanding of refugees, communities and
citizenship in the U.S.? What role does media play? Would you change media
representation? How so?
PART 2: The Audio Project
You will produce a 2-3-minute audio statement for your classmates to hear. In this statement
you may respond to these questions:
o What do you think most people believe about refugees in the US?
o How do you think refugees and immigrants are represented in the media?
o What are your personal experiences with refugees or immigrants (if any)?
In summary, you will carefully consider how the media represents refugees and immigrants in
the news and popular culture, then review the module folders for the most useful materials that
would help you construct your arguments and points. You will then produce a paper and an
audio piece about these reflections.
Some Suggestions for Writing
Find representations of media items in the news, movies, news websites and stories that
depict refugees. For example, the Syrian conflict as well as Eastern European refugees,
and displaced populations from West Africa (climate refugees) or Latin America (political
unrest) have been profiled heavily in the news.

In 2015, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees accom-
modated over 15 million refugees, mostly in refugee camps in
developing countries. The World Food Program provided these
refugees with food aid, in cash or in kind. Refugees’ impacts on host
countries are controversial and little understood. This unique study
analyzes the economic impacts of refugees on host-country econo-
mies within a 10-km radius of three Congolese refugee camps in
Rwanda. Simulations using Monte Carlo methods reveal that cash
aid to refugees creates significant positive income spillovers to host-
country businesses and households. An additional adult refugee re-
ceiving cash aid increases annual real income in the local economy
by $205 to $253, significantly more than the $120–$126 in aid each
refugee receives. Trade between the local economy and the rest of
Rwanda increases by $49 to $55. The impacts are lower for in-kind
food aid, a finding relevant to development aid generally.

Recent events shed light on the growing number of refugeesdisplaced by conflicts around the world. The influx of Syrian
refugees to Europe is currently in the spotlight, but every year
the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR)
places thousands of people displaced by civil conflict or natural
disasters, which may be related to one another (1, 2), in refugee
camps across the globe (3), and the UN World Food Program
(WFP) provides refugees with food aid, in kind or cash. The
number of refugees under UN mandate reached an estimated
15.1 million in 2015, the highest level in 20 y (4). Most of these
refugees are in camps located in less-developed countries neigh-
boring the refugees’ country of origin.
Controversy surrounds the impacts of refugees on host econ-
omies (5–7). The popular perception might be that camps house
people who are helpless and dependent on food aid, but some
recent studies reveal that refugee populations are actively en-
gaged with host-country economies in an effort to improve their
circumstances (8). There is little reliable empirical evidence of
how refugees affect the economies of host countries. Some
studies suggest that refugees have no significant impact (9). Others

The United States, however, is not theonly country with an influx of newcomers into its diverse society. Granting amnesty is one of the options that could be explored in dealing with the deportation of parents. Amnesty entails the granting of a formal legal status to individuals with an illegal residence in a country and is awaiting deportation. The issue of amnesty among immigrants is received with mixed reactions. While some political leaders use the amnesty programs as a means of benefiting themselves, the citizens of the country view the move as a means of suppressing their access to resources. According to Levy (2010), people in support of an amnesty program among the illegal migrants view the deportation of illegal immigrants as being an impractical move. The deportation process is hectic for both the officials and the involved parties. Levy (2010) noted that the deportation process is time-consuming, requires a lot of effort, and is labor-intensive.
The country would have to incur additional costs in trying to correct a situation created by people who failed to take their jobs seriously. Also, it is not a guarantee that all illegal immigrants would be successfully deported as some may escape detection, which means that the government goes through all that trouble for nothing. Instead, the government should use the challenge of illegal immigrants to its advantage. This document provides instructions for a primary source analysis paper assignment. Students must analyze a primary source document in 2-3 pages and address questions about the source's type, creator, context, intent, content, and relevance. The analysis should be in essay format and incorporate at least one secondary and tertiary source to substantiate the analysis of the primary document. The goal is for students to critically examine the primary source and consider its historical and cultural context.

Primary sources are extremely important, not only in history, but in many other fields. It offers a window into the past, an inside view into a certain time period. It will require you to be more critical and analytical and give you a deeper understanding of what that document meant during that time period. There are times that a source can have a hidden meaning and you will have to read between the lines. Primary sources can come in different forms. They can be photographs, memoirs, paintings, letters, newspaper articles, films, government documents, etc.
I do not want just a summary or an overview of the primary source but also an analysis. For ex., if you read a slave narrative like the
Diary of a Slave Girl
by Harriet Jacobs, you can bring in information that not only supports Jacobs's narrative but also expounds on it. While you are reading and analyzing your source, you will be thinking about the time period and the historical significance of your primary source. Think about the author’s biases and assumptions. You can bring in secondary sources and other information to round out your work.

In 1944, finance specialists and bankers from around the world met to discuss what the post-WWII monetary system would be. Given the instability of the pre-war period, the goal was to create a new system. The outcome of this was the Bretton Woods system, which had the U.S. dollar as the world reserve currency linked to gold at $35 an ounce. All other currencies were tied to the dollar with limits on how much they could appreciate or depreciate. The system lasted until the 1970s, when the United States decided to move away from gold convertibility. The modern system is based on supply and demand for currency and a managed float. Discuss the following in your main post:
The U.S. dollar remains the world's reserve currency. Is this good for the United States, and if so, why?

Webster dictionary gave a number of definitions of ‘Ritual’: “a system of rites, a Ceremonial act or action, a customarily repeated often formal act or series of acts”. In our everyday dealings there are different forms of actions taken that are repetitive but cannot be classified as symbolic eg, bathing, sleeping, and eating. However, if we kneel, and say a particular word of prayer and make the sign of the cross before doing any one of the above routinely, then that can be considered a ritual because it can be decoded as symbolic to the Catholic religion, and to other observers as a way of devotion.
There are some symbolic rituals associated with health practiced by various cultures. In the Catholic Church the sprinkling of Holy water by the priest and burning of incense during Eucharistic prayers is believed to ward off evil spirit, and promote good health and everything progressive for the congregation. The vestment of the priest, the setup of the altar and the arrangement of the pews are symbols of a place of worship. The prayers said at every mass are rituals and members believe attending mass keeps them in good health, and good standing in life. So it is with other religious practices. As stated by Wintz, S., and Cooper, E. (2009), Islamic religious beliefs are based on five principles: “shahadatain (declaration of faith), Salat (prayer/worship), zakat (charitable contribution), sawn (fasting), hajj (pilgrimage to mecca)”, are all the five principles that require some degree of rituals to perform them. In health matters, doctors are seen as helpers of God’s will, so they are not restricted in the course of treatment, (p.21-22).
As a child I remember my maternal grandmother had a large clay pot with water in it at a corner of her living room; decorated with white/red colored cloths, and figurines like a shrine, where every morning as traditional worshipper, she said her prayers. We were never allowed to play close to the area. But the water from the pot which she drank she gave us to drink too when we visited. She believed it promoted good health and good luck in life. I cannot say for sure if those deeds worked, but she lived to be 103years before she died in 1978.
In the hospitals as described by Helman, C., (2007), the white coat worn by the doctors and other health professionals are symbolic, and the stethoscope used for checking blood pressure and other vitals are the rituals, performed to diagnose illness or certify clean bill of health. So many instruments, computers, hi-technology machines, the arrangement of the doctor’s consulting room, are all symbolic rituals associated to health and illness (p.227). For a patient who is certified ill; all these could symbolize healing, or may signify death, especially for the elderly. The process of getting admitted as illustrated by (Helman), is how a sick person goes through some rituals, such as being stripped of their social statu.

Abstract:
Determining whether legal sanctions administered by the judicial court system or by local law enforcements are effectively designed to reduce, discourage and/or deter people from driving while impaired. There are various studies that provide conflicting arguments on whether driving laws have been a successful strategy in deterring drinking and driving behavior. Deterrence theories are based on the assumption that the perception and probability of certain severe punishment discourages people from illegal activities. Deterrence theory assumes that law breaking is inversely related to the severity of punishment. Further, it is the deterrence model ideology that law enforcement entities depend on to reduce DUI/DWI’s. The social control theory expands on the deterrence model to incorporate social influences. According to this theory drinking laws are only one of many factors that influence DUI behavior. Social stigma and perceived risk in committing the crime also play a part in discouraging this type of behavior. Although there has been little research conducted examining both deterrence and social control theories and the impact on DUI behavior proponents for these theories believe that innate makeup of these two ideologies are effective enough to modify a person’s

PAPER TO HELP WITH DISCUSSION A refugee is an individual that seeks shelter in a different country other than their own from a political, environmental or economic reason that directly threatens their lives (Sharma, 2015). The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) oversees the protection and livelihood of refugees under the international law, a practice that spans more than 100 years. The current statistics show refugees exceed 20 million individuals across the world (Sharma, 2015). This is a large population and represents a lot of displaced productivity. There are advantages and disadvantages related to refugees that fall on both the home and the hosting countries. The focus is ensuring the disadvantages are minimizing to the benefit of both countries to provide an environment that would minimize the suffering experienced by the refugees. This consideration promotes the chances of resolving the refugee crisis. Reversing the situation would ensure an aggregate increase in economic,
- 3. social and political progress at a global level. Increasing the global GDP and establishing effective income distribution plans should be able to satisfy the needs of the refugees as well as those of citizens in their own countries. Most of the conflicts leading to conflicts in particular countries arise from greed that allows a few powerful people to take a substantial part of the resources (Taylor, Filipski, Alloush, Gupta, Valdes, & Gonzalez-Estrada, 2016). Therefore, the conflicts ensure such countries lose their productive power in terms of labor and end up not maximizing the use of the resources. Meanwhile, the host country is showered by an influx of the workforce yet lack in a proper way to utilize their expertise. Furthermore, there never is a standard provision for refugees in policy nor resource wise. Therefore, development of proper absorption and utilization of the manpower for maximum production would not only stabilize the lives of the refugees but also allow them to reorganize their personal economic status in readiness for the trip back to their home country (Taylor, Filipski, Alloush, Gupta, Valdes, & Gonzalez-Estrada, 2016). Empowering refugees and providing stability makes it easy for them to transfer the effects to their home countries. Unfortunately, most of the refugee plans are never designed alongside this pattern. Most refugee plans hold onto the hosting section while awaiting the calm in the home country so as to start sending the refugees back. Unfortunately most of the feuding home countries have conflicts that persist indefinitely. There are contentious issues that hinder potential reversal plans and allow the reality of refugee absolute empowerment to remain a pipe dream. The global refugee system in terms of protecting refugees is broken from the start (Dunn, 2016). The developed countries perceive the refugee crisis as a
- 4. problem for other nations other their own. They employ closed border excuses and get horrified at the idea of being flooded by the unwanted foreigners. They are filthy rich but would not directly absorb refugees and only make demonstrations in pursuit of higher favors or recognition. Therefore, such nations have conveniently made it possible for developing countries deemed to be poor to physically accommodate a large refugee population comprising of 86% while selectively sharing the remaining 14% or less based on the deaths in transit (Dunn, 2016). The situation is getting worse as such developed countries have started to ignore requests for contribution to humanitarian aid while reducing their annual remittances to the United Nations bodies. In essence, this is adding more pressure on the resources of the hosting, yet poor nations. Critics of the complete empowerment programs site various social problems that come with refugees. They believe the refugees add to social vices, are psychologically unstable, are active carriers of regional diseases, and provide effective infrastructure for terrorism or smuggling businesses, among other reasons (Kastrup, 2016). Such inhibitions pull back full empowerment of the refugees and they are systematically limited in their new homes. Providing full settlement is one way of reversing the crisis because it allows the refugees more time to focus on solutions in their home countries. Furthermore, it explores the international refugee law that was enacted and promised exhaustive implementation of rights identified as essential for protecting refugees. This was an essential document in the wake of the effects of the Second World War characterized by the largest number of refugees. The book explores topics such as the disregard of human life, systematic mistreatment and forced displacement, with the aim of eliminating repeat incidences on how the refugees were handled during and after the war. The analysis contained in the book connects legal and historical contexts in line with liberty, fraternity and equality. This study is important in giving direction to some of the neglected provisions that made sense in history and can still apply to the reversal of the refugee crisis into a positive outlook. The increased terrorism in the recent decades is reflected in security concerns in the host country when dealing with refugees. The rights of refugees are constantly being violated under the anti-terrorism policies. The racism elements are also on the rise as well as the other discrimination aspects. Inequality and refugee perception is an additional source of stress to the already inconvenienced refugees. The consequences are development of secondary conflicts in the hosting country between the refugees and the residents or authorities. The psychological impact cannot also be ignored as more refugees continue to deteriorate health wise. This study explores the medical implications as well as ethical dilemmas encountered by both the refugees and the host country residents. The findings are important in determining the important role played by the host nation in either helping the refugees or making reversal of the refugee crisis an impossible pursuit.
