Continuity editing uses smooth transitions between shots to maintain logical coherence and the sense that events unfold consistently in time and space. Matching action between shots shows the same action from different views, like cutting from a person walking to a door handle being turned. Shot reverse shot alternates between characters looking at each other to imply a conversation. The 180-degree rule maintains the left/right relationship between characters to avoid confusion when switching camera angles.
