Domenikos Theotocopoulos, known as El Greco, was a renowned Greek artist born in Crete who is known for developing a unique style that blended elements of Renaissance and Byzantine art. He studied under the Cretan master painter Titan and later moved to Venice, Rome, and Spain, where he adopted the name El Greco. Some of El Greco's most famous works include The Burial of Count Orgaz and The Adoration of the Shepherds, painted in oils using elongated figures and dramatic use of color.
