Prague is situated in central Europe on both banks of the Vltava River, with a population of 1.2 million people within its 500 square km area. Some of Prague's most famous historical sites include Prague Castle, the largest medieval castle in the world and former residence of Czech kings; St. Vitus Cathedral, the largest gothic style temple housing the Czech Crown Jewels; and Charles Bridge, the oldest bridge in Prague decorated with baroque statues and often crowded with tourists.
