The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) was launched by India's Prime Minister on August 15, 2014, to promote financial inclusion and provide banking access to the unbanked population. The scheme allows individuals to open zero-balance accounts, offers various benefits including debit cards and insurance, and aims to facilitate direct government subsidy transfers. As of now, over 71 million accounts have been opened, with a total deposit of Rs 5,000 crore.
