• 1992: Rio Earth Summit
• 1993-94:Basic Research Project on the Environment and
Productivity
• 1994: Established Committee on Environment (COE)
• 1994: GP Program was launched with the special grant from the
Government of Japan
• 1996: World Conference on GP

What is Green Productivity
Green Productivity (GP) is a strategy for
enhancing productivity and environmental
performance for sustainable socio-economic
development. It is the application of appropriate
productivity and environmental management
tools, techniques, technologies to reduce the
environmental impact of organization’s activities
for products and services.

GP – its programs
 Introduced in 1994, through a special grant from the
Government of Japan, as a practical way to answer the
challenges of sustainable development
 The aim – propagate a “GP consciousness” within the
Asia-Pacific region
Example of APO GP projects:
 Training of Trainers on Green Productivity
 Eco-products International Fair
 Workshop on Eco Design
 Workshop on Energy Efficiency
 Workshop on Energy Management
 Workshop on ISO 50001
 Workshop on Material Flow Cost Accounting
Practice-Oriented Workshop on Energy
Audits and Energy Efficiency
Objectives
• To provide industry managers and professionals with an
opportunity to understand a practical approach to and
practices of energy efficiency and energy audits
• To enable them to reduce energy consumption and
improve energy performance in organizations
Expectation
Follow-up activities conducted and results achieved by you
should be reported back to APO within 6 months.
Do we have time to wait???
100 years = 36,500 days
Say average life expectancy is 70 years
(or active life)
70 x 365 = 25,550 days
Say age, as of today, is 35 years
25,550 – (35 X 365) = 12,775 days !!!
Do we have time to wait???
Now assume, we sleep 6 hours/day
12,775 X 6 hrs = 76,650 hrs for sleep
76,650 : 24 hrs = 3,194 days for sleep
12,775 – 3,194 = 9,581 days
Do we have time to wait???
Now assume, we work 8 hours per day
9,581 days X 8 hrs = 76,648 hrs for work
76,648/24 hrs = 3,193days for work
Do we have time to wait???
Now, we work 5 days a week
2 days (no work) out of 7 days
912 days (no work) out of 3,193 days
Actual Work Days left
3193 – 912 days = 2,281*days
(*Other holidays and sick leaves not counted)
We do not have time to waste…
Thank you!
