The 2014 Indian general elections were the largest democratic election in history with over 814 million eligible voters voting over 9 phases from April 7th to May 12th across 930,000 polling stations. It was both the longest running and most expensive election with total spending estimated at $579 million. Over 11 million people were deployed for election duties including 8 million civilians and 3 million security personnel as India exercised its democratic right in what was considered the biggest election worldwide.
