Pollution refers to the contamination of the natural environment such as air, water, and land by harmful substances added through human activities. Common pollutants include carbon monoxide, sulfur and nitrogen oxides, dust, smoke, sewage, and chemicals from manufacturing and fossil fuel combustion. Air pollution is caused primarily by vehicle emissions, power generation, and chemical production. Water pollution results from sewage, industrial activities like manufacturing, agriculture, and urban runoff. To reduce pollution, we should practice the 3Rs of reduce, reuse and recycle; use vehicles less; create public awareness; and enforce anti-pollution laws.
