INTRODUCTION:-
Initially the word “clinic” was used for a place where a group of physician
would sit to treat and study patient requiring medical and surgical treatment.
It is the place where the primary diagnosis of patient is done and treatment
given
According to latest concept clinic are also known as “ambulatory care
centre”.
PLACES FOR CLINIC:-
Clinics are mainly arranged at following places.
1. sub-center
2. Primary health center
3. Community health center
4. Hospitals
5. Low income group colonies, slums, bus stands, schools, and similarly
community places.
FEATURES OF GOOD CLINIC:-
1. Planned and follow the time-table
2. Physicians and members of health team should be specialist and skilled in their
work and sufficient in number.
3. Proper arrangement of places, equipment, medicines etc.
4. Behaviour of medical staff should be satisfactory.
5. Requirement of community should be kept in mind while setting up clinic.
6. Arrangement should be made for effective health education.

TYPES OF CLINICS:-
Clinic may be classified in various ways, these are describe in 3 groups:-
1. General clinic:- These are arranged for examination, diagnosis, and treatment of
minor ailments. Example :- immunization clinic, dental clinic and poly clinic etc.
2. Maternal and child health clinic:-
MCH services are mostly provided through these clinic, some important
clinic of this category-
I. Antenatal clinic:- Antenatal care means looking after the women
during pregnancy,
This care should be start before the pregnancy
(before the conception) in a planned manner.

Activities in antenatal clinic:-
• collection of facts
• Antenatal examination
• identifying high risk women and treating them
• Prenatal counselling
• Immunization and health protection

II. Intra natal clinic :- Care required at the time of delivery is called intra natal care.
Delivery may arranged at home or at hospital. Institutional delivery (delivery in
hospital ) is considered safe and better these days.
Activities in intra natal clinic:-
• Maximum possible care to mother during delivery.
• Minimum harm to mother and child.
• Prevention of complication.
• Neonatal care.

III. Post natal clinic:- post natal care refers to the care given to mother after delivery .
Both mother and infant care are a part of it and together it is called
“perinatology”.
Activities in postnatal clinic:-
* Prevention against complication during postnatal period.
* Post natal examination.
* providing health education.
* preparing mother for breast feeding.
* family planning.
* postnatal home visit.

IV. Child guidance clinic:- some children suffer from abnormal behaviour or
psychological problem, child guidance clinic are organised to solve such problem of children.
Psychiatrist, paediatrician, community health nurse, and other auxiliary worker serve in these
clinics.
Children suffering from following problems:-
• Enuresis
• Refusing to go to school
• Hating from family members
• Not behaving as per age
• Cruel behaviour toward the other children and animal.

V. Under five clinic:-
Under five clinic is a Centre, where preventive
,promotive , curative, referral and educational services are
provided in a package manner to under five
children under one roof.
To overall goal of under five clinics to provide
comprehensive health care to young children in a
specialized facility.

3. SPECIALITY CLINICS:- Medical and counselling services for certain specific disorders
are provided through these clinics.
Specialist doctor and nurses essential for conducting these clinics.

T.B. clinic
Sex clinic etc.
ROLE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE IN CONDUCTING CLINIC:-
1. Assessing the health status of patients
2. Providing nursing services to patients
3. Assisting Doctor’s
4. Selecting place for clinic
5. Providing special knowledge, skill and technique as per health need of patients
6. Educating patients for improving health and skillful adjustment
7. Taking care or the availability of medicine, equipment and other resources
8. Monitoring record which are preserved at clinic
9. Supervising other health and nursing staff working at clinic
10. Providing health education to patient and his family
