Henri Matisse was a famous French artist known for his use of bright colors and fluid lines in his paintings. In his later years as he suffered from poor health, he began cutting colored papers and mounting them on canvas, creating collages known as "cutouts". Some of his most notable cutout works include "Beasts of the Sea", "The Sorrows of the King", "Blue Nudes", "La Négresse", and "Black Leaf on Green Background". This new technique allowed Matisse to be creative from his bed during the final years of his life.
