Tet is the Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration. It is the most important holiday in Vietnamese culture, marking the beginning of spring and a new year. Traditionally, Tet was a three-day celebration where families would reunite and exchange gifts of "lucky money". However, modern life has changed how Tet is now celebrated. Fewer people feel they have the time to do all the cleaning and cooking preparations as in the past. Many also no longer feel Tet is as important an occasion or need to stay home due to work and other commitments. The factors leading to these changes include people now living more comfortably than in the past as well as modern life being busier and more focused on materialism.
