All About Spiders and their Webs Synopsis:   The book  The Very Busy Spider  will be read aloud to the class.  The class will then be given topics to research on the computer.  The purpose of this project is to teach students how to cooperatively use technology to present a topic.
Materials The book itself:  The Very Busy Spider Slide show images Computer stations Printer stations
1.) Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-rich resources. (1,2)  Creativity and Innovation: While reading the story aloud, students are viewing a looped slide show depicting various spiders and their habitats.  Communication and Collaboration: After listening to the story, students will be able to discuss as a class their thoughts on the story and the slide show.  How many shapes can you identify from the spider web images shown on the slides? How are spiders significant to the environment?
10.)  Demonstrate ability to navigate in virtual environments such as electronic books, simulation software, & Web sites (6)   Technology Operations and Concepts : Demonstrate using a computer by: Opening internet  Typing in topic key words How to maneuver site How to print summary
4.) In a collaborative work group, use a variety of technologies to produce a digital presentation or product in a curriculum area. (1,2,6)   Technology Operations and Concepts:   Assign each group a different website about spiders. Habitat Environmental benefits of the spider Spinning webs (shape addressing) Different types of spiders (shape addressing) Each group must produce a typed summarization about their area. Take turns typing, decide on aesthetic presentation, assign verbal presentation.
7.)  Demonstrate safe and cooperative use of technology. (5)   Digital Citizenship : Set up timed turns for each group member – one member responsible for time keeping No web surfing, stay on topic Use time wisely
