Encountering others | Power, privilege and solidarity in international servic...Paul Treadwell
How do we encounter 'others' in international service learning contexts. Engaging privilege for solidarity and accompaniment. The role of dialog and hope in creating common spaces.
Conscious journeying: Traveling through Transformation and Transforming throu...Tiffany Foo
Traditionally, the theme of adangerous voyage or adventure has served as a broadly operative metaphor for the inner experience of the evolution of consciousness. What if we approached travel as a practice dedicated to exploration beyond the bounds of the familiar? Our journeys provide us with unique settings upon which this drama of evolutionary motion can be enacted. Weaving together personal travel anecdotes, developmental theory, archetypal symbolism, and the cultural phenomenon known as Couchsurfing, this presentation will explore what can we learn about ourselves, others, and the world through our intimate and awkward encounters with both the familiar and the unfamiliar terrains—the landscapes, culturescapes, we-scapes, and selfscapes—that compose the sum of our experiences.

Over the past year, WEDO has been marking its twentieth anniversary. Motivated by those who have come before us and who continue to work alongside us as mentors, peers and partners, we have delved into our collective history, marveling at the stories, the moments of transformation, the ebbs and flows of challenge and victory.
While inequalities and inequities endure, while the global crises that drove WEDO’s founding persist or are (as some surely are) worsened, and while fundamental counter-forces continue to threaten to roll back progress, in pockets around the world and in historic milestones at the global community level, a revolutionary momentum has remained tireless. This history in the pages ahead is not meant to be exhaustive – far from it. It is unabashedly subjective – each moment a stone in the foundation for work ahead – highlighted partly because, in gearing up for Rio+20, a milestone for WEDO, as well as for the wider women’s, environmental and development movements, we all seek inspiration. It is so easy to become frustrated – especially as many of the same issues and the same rhetoric flood the table once again.
But we go on. Among Bella’s remarkable qualities was her tremendous capacity for optimism. She drew inspiration and motivation from all the women around the world with whom she worked. She celebrated them and, in so doing, she celebrated the momentum of this movement. In turn, we celebrate the countless individuals, organizations, networks and movements who have contributed to every bit of this shared history – from tiny flickers of progress to long-lasting change. Cate Owren Executive Director, on behalf of the WEDO Team

For eighty years, the Jewish Agency has convened the Jewish people in an unparalleled partnership with a singular purpose: ensuring the Jewish future with a strong Israel at its heart. Together, we have built the State of Israel, bringing over three million Jews home, transformed deserts into communities, and offered opportunity where there was once devastation.
It is the donors, partners, and philanthropists around the world who join our efforts
through both undesignated and designated funding and enabling us to make a
difference. In Israel and around the world, we are able to be the Jewish world’s
representatives as we implement strategic activities, leverage other funds raised,
operate at capacity, and respond to rapidly changing realities and emerging
situations.
From Stage to Change Ensemble is the only Arab/Jewish women's Playback Ensemble in the world. Our goals are:
1. To empower Arab and Jewish women in Israel to bring their voices and unique gifts to the social change and peace-building arenas.
2. To create a safe haven where women and men who live in Israel can share their painful stories and feelings related to the conflict in the Middle East and transform their anger, hatred, grief and mistrust into empathy towards one another and a drive to work together for change.
Together Beyond Words power point presentation for Othonanitsan1960
rom years of living in the midst of conflict, we know that emotional human pain (anger, hatred, revenge, despair) that is not transformed is transmitted, fueling and refueling the cycle of violence in the Middle East.
Therefore we at Together Beyond Words run workshops and courses that provide safe havens where pain can be shared, acknowledged and transformed into understanding and empathy towards the "other". In this way we are building a foundation for future peace.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. From Stage to Change
An Entrepreneurial Peace-building Initiative of the Together
Beyond Words Organization designed to empower Arab and
Jewish women, rebuild trust and support collaborations
amongst Muslims, Druze, Bedouins, Christians, Circassians and
Jews who live in Israel
2. The Background…
We live in a part of the world where here has been conflict for
over 100 years
3.
4. It is the longest conflict in the world today causing
immense suffering to both sides
5.
6. In addition…
Since Operation Protective Edge (July- August 2014) and other world
events, more and more Jews and Palestinian Arabs who live in Israel are
viewing the other side as the "enemy". This widening rift is leading to
increased fear, mistrust, racism, incitement to violence and actual violence
between Arabs and Jews who live in proximity. They hardly ever meet each
other for positive meaningful interactions. They don’t go to the same
schools or live in the same neighborhoods. Many of them only meet when
they go to College and then they have already developed negative
stereotypes about one another.
7. Stereotypes such as…
On the Jewish side… “Arabs are uneducated because
they don’t speak Hebrew as well as we do…” or
“They can’t be trusted, all they want is to take our
homes and throw us into the Sea”
On the Arab side… “ Jewish society is too liberal,
especially with regards to women” or “Jews can’t be
trusted, they hate Arabs and anyone who is different
from them.”
8. There are very few places where Arab
and Jewish women can meet, listen
to one another, rebuild trust and
become empowered to work
together for change. Our initiative is
designed to create such places
12. How does it work?
Stage I – Training: Participants get to know one another,
develop a trusting relationship, learn how to lead
listening/dialogue circles and how to be Playback
Theater actresses
Stage II – Events: TBW organizes performance and
workshop events throughout the country in
collaboration with Women Wage Peace.
New development -- In each event Arab and Jewish
women entrepreneurs from the area will be invited to
display and sell their products and encouraged to
create entrepreneurial partnerships.
28. We are seeking….
Financial support to hold 20 events.
Each event will have an audience of 50 to100 Arabs
and Jews and will be focused on empowering
women, rebuilding trust and working together for a
Peace settlement.
During each event we will also have a fair where
Arab and Jewish women can display products they
make and services they offer as part of their
entrepreneurial initiatives. Women will be
encouraged to get to know one another, network
and develop joint initiatives.
29. Thank you for doing and supporting
good in this world…
