The Nelson Mandela Foundation, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, hosted the Malibongwe dialogue to highlight the continuing struggle for gender equality and to act as a catalyst to encourage action on issues raised. It was also an opportunity to salute all women who have struggled against inequality. We need to ensure that the struggles of the past were not waged in vain. The organisers were spurred by a call by Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on International Women’s Day, March 8 2007. The dialogue featured some of the valiant women from the struggle alongside a new generation of women engaged in continuing the struggle for justice today. Those brave efforts by South African women remain fresh in our memory, giving rationale to the Centre of Memory and Dialogue’s proposition to host both an exhibition (initially displayed at the Apartheid Museum) depicting women’s struggles, and to share these experiences with the generations after them. This exhibition and dialogue established a connection between those past struggles and the efforts of women today, while not forgetting the role of men. It is hoped that the dialogue gave a renewed sense of urgency to various initiatives aimed at bringing the country closer to gender equality. FOREWORD ACHMAT DANGOR The Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) seeks to contribute to a just society by promoting the vision and work of its Founder and convening dialogue around critical social issues. Our Founder, Nelson Mandela, based his entire life on the principle of dialogue, the art of listening and speaking to others; it is also the art of getting others to listen and speak to each other.
Our stories have been written by men. Mostly about men. Or about women perceived through male gaze. So we end up seeing the world through one eye only. How can we reclaim the narrative? How can we foster a more balanced storytelling?

Broaden my Bookshelf (BMB) is an initiative to increase the range of authors represented in the University of Huddersfield Library. The main focus is on books written by marginalised people (e.g. from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background and/or who identify as LGBT+). It was launched in October 2018 and is delivered in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield Students Union (UHSU). It grew out of our desire to work with UHSU on improving the quality and breadth of reading lists, along with a growing awareness of issues raised by the Why is my curriculum White? Campaign.
BMB also aims to encourage and assist lecturers to diversify their reading lists. This led to the creation of a Reading List Toolkit in 2020. The Toolkit provides a rationale for decolonising and diversifying reading lists with testimonies from minoritized students. It also includes a checklist for lecturers to self-assess their lists, also access to the BMB book collection and relevant journal collections as well as less traditional resources, including video playlists and podcasts.
Throughout the period since 2018 the BMB team has worked to raise awareness of the campaign by organising events such as panel debates and an author event with the author and photographer Johny Pitts. We have also taken BMB out to the schools of the university with “roadshow” events and gathered feedback from students about their experiences of the curriculum from a diversity perspective. We have also promoted BMB each new academic year using a variety of print and social media, including videos created by the UHSU Education and Equalities Officers. Our latest promotional event was a Human Library which we ran at the university Teaching and Learning Conference on 28th June 2023.
This presentation was delivered at Reimagining Higher Education: journeys of decolonising at De Montfort University, Leicester, on Wednesday 8th November 2023.

Together Beyond Words power point presentation for Othonanitsan1960
rom years of living in the midst of conflict, we know that emotional human pain (anger, hatred, revenge, despair) that is not transformed is transmitted, fueling and refueling the cycle of violence in the Middle East.
Therefore we at Together Beyond Words run workshops and courses that provide safe havens where pain can be shared, acknowledged and transformed into understanding and empathy towards the "other". In this way we are building a foundation for future peace.

Improving Workplace Safety Performance in Malaysian SMEs: The Role of Safety ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: In the Malaysian context, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) experience a significant
burden of workplace accidents. A consensus among scholars attributes a substantial portion of these incidents to
human factors, particularly unsafe behaviors. This study, conducted in Malaysia's northern region, specifically
targeted Safety and Health/Human Resource professionals within the manufacturing sector of SMEs. We
gathered a robust dataset comprising 107 responses through a meticulously designed self-administered
questionnaire. Employing advanced partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques
with SmartPLS 3.2.9, we rigorously analyzed the data to scrutinize the intricate relationship between safety
behavior and safety performance. The research findings unequivocally underscore the palpable and
consequential impact of safety behavior variables, namely safety compliance and safety participation, on
improving safety performance indicators such as accidents, injuries, and property damages. These results
strongly validate research hypotheses. Consequently, this study highlights the pivotal significance of cultivating
safety behavior among employees, particularly in resource-constrained SME settings, as an essential step toward
enhancing workplace safety performance.

ABSTRACT: Although a significant amount of literature exists on Morocco's migration policies and their
successes and failures since their implementation in 2014, there is limited research on the integration of subSaharan African children into schools. This paperis part of a Ph.D. research project that aims to fill this gap. It
reports the main findings of a study conducted with migrant children enrolled in two public schools in Rabat,
Morocco, exploring how integration is defined by the children themselves and identifying the obstacles that they
have encountered thus far. The following paper uses an inductive approach and primarily focuses on the
relationships of children with their teachers and peers as a key aspect of integration for students with a migration
background. The study has led to several crucial findings. It emphasizes the significance of speaking Colloquial
Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and being part of a community for effective integration. Moreover, it reveals that the
use of Modern Standard Arabic as the language of instruction in schools is a source of frustration for students,
indicating the need for language policy reform. The study underlines the importanceof considering the
children‟s agency when being integrated into mainstream public schools.

the Arab-Jewish conflict in our region.”
-- Tasneem, 35, Muslim, Dir El Asad
7. Program Plan
• Starting October 2013 the ensemble will present an
interactive performance and follow-up workshop events
throughout the country to diverse audiences: at least 50
events to 2500 Arabs and Jews over the next two years
• Following the event, the women in the audience will be
invited to a 60 hour training course in the area where they live
that will help in further developing their leadership skills.

-- Yoli, 44, Kamon
9. What does the From Stage to Change event
include?
During the performance volunteers from the audience are invited to
share personal stories related to their lives in Israel which are then
enacted on stage by the actresses of the Arab- Jewish women
Ensemble.
Following the performance the audience is divided into small groups
led by the actresses/facilitators, enabling those who did not go on
stage to share their stories as well.
The deep listening and sharing in a supportive setting created within
the small groups increases compassion, empathy and acceptance
towards ourselves and others and enables the women to experience
simple tools for changing their role in their own life stories.
10. C. Tools that can help them go

B. What their lives and future would look

17. What people are saying about the From Stage
to Change events…
“The Together Beyond Words Playback Theatre Ensemble visited us at Beit Berl
College for a unique and magical performance. The different actresses and
the connection between them succeeded in creating within the Arab and
Jewish audience an atmosphere of openness, shared joy, excitement and
readiness to connect with one another. This was an exceptionally bonding
experience that each participant will remember.”
-- Dr. Meirav Naker-Sadi, the head of the Department of Informal Education
at Beit Berl College
“The performance was heart opening, inspiring and empowering. The follow
up workshop enabled many more people to open their hearts and share
their pain in a safe space. Each group seemed to have developed a circle of
trust and connection very quickly. “ – Ravit Yasur, leader, Tedarim Betnua
“ I wish this type of events could be done all over the United States and
Israel, they help so much in changing people’s prejudices and
biases…” – Tina, a Jewish participant at the Esalen workshop
18. “I will never forget that moment when I saw an Ethiopian man, a
disabled woman, and Arab and Jewish women acting the story of
one of our teachers about her son who was born deaf. It touched
me so deeply that it was beyond words….”
Orit, 34, a student who attended the Beit Berl event
19. “When we were asked to act the story of an Ethiopian
mother who travelled on her own to Israel with her five
children hoping to make a better life for them and then
lost her daughter in a car accident, I felt overwhelmed…
20. …But afterwards when I saw her surrounded by her friends,
smiling through her tears, I realized that we were actually
supporting her process of healing…” – Miriam, 58, an
actress/facilitator
21. When we transform personal and national pain that people have
carried inside for generations, they open their hearts to one
another and to the possibility of living together in Peace…..
