How does your media product represent particular social groups? As the film revolves around criminals and mobsters they are glamorised in a positive way. They are shown living their intense lifestyle drinking, smoking and gambling. The victim in the film is portrayed to look smaller than everyone else, we sat him down in a chair so he looks inferior to everyone else. The audience are meant to sympathise the main character as he is the character that we follow as he progresses through the film. The costumes help identify the stereotype we are creating as everyone in the mob are dressed up in suits
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? The film that I have produced will be most likely be distributed in small companies such as Through using the internet I will be able to distribute my product. I will be able to upload my video onto websites such as www.youtube.com or www.facebook.com. Using these websites will be the easiest, cheapest and less time consuming method of allowing my media product to be accessed by the audiences. Although I wont be making any gross profits I will be able to receive genuine reviews on my product. www.coffeefilms.com will broadcast small budget films which is ideal for our media product. As we have a small budget this is the only real option for us. The first step to distributing films to cinemas is to is to have a copy of the finish film. This completed film is sent to the studio, the studio will then make an licensing agreement with a distribution company. The distribution company will determine how many copies of the film to produce. The distribution company will then show your finish movie to prospective buyers representing the cinemas. The buyers will negotiate a deal with the distribution company. The copies will then be sent to the cinemas for an agreed number of weeks. As my film involves a small production team with a very low expendable budget it will most likely be shown a small ‘art – house’ cinema. A big star or a leading director influences the success of the film, as my film has neither then it will be very difficult to have a partnership with successful film distributers which would then lead to a film being shown in the cinema.
Who would be the audience for your media product? The target audience for my media piece will be generally aim towards the male gender especially those who are in there 20’s or 30’s because of the 18 age certificate. I don’t expect anyone under that age to view my production. Because there will be lots of scenes of violence, drug abuse and maybe some scenes that may be intimidating. I expect the film to be more popular among men.
How did you attract/address your audience? My film involves aspects of crime that can only intrigue the sensation. It will provide the audience to see what it like to be involve in a crime ridden community without facing any of the consequences of real life crime. They will be able to escape their lives and lose themselves in the story of mob related movie without and real life consequences.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? For researching crime films I found it easier to use www.google.co.uk to search crime films on the search engine and then access the websites that were founded rather t I personally don’t like using www.blogger.com I thought it was a little to tricky to use especially when trying to upload documents which contain images such as the cast list. It also took a lot of time to upload our film and my preliminary onto www.youtube.com. I found using the camera not a issue. I found it really easy to handle and use. Although I didn’t use the camera to its full potential I used enough of its functions to produce the film. The only issue I had with the camera was with the battery. The camera had to be permanently attached to the mains as the battery couldn’t store any power. When filming the issue I found was keeping the camera steady when moving. In future it would be good to use a device which would help keep the camera steady such as having a little trolley to roll the camera stand on. At first I found final cut a little tricky to use as I am not used to using Mac computers. But after a couple of minutes I got used to using the Macs although saying that I do find the software Final cut a bit a of annoyance at times. When I was editing my preliminary the audio went out of the sync of the video, so a lot of time went into sorting out the audio so that the video and the sound worked together. The only issue we had when filming was the background sounds of the floorboards creaking these were very noticeable when we played back the film on the Macs. The transitions on the Final cut software is very limited and there really only a couple of effects that can be used in making the film look professional. I also found the effects not very useful, as some of them weren’t very noticeable.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt from it to the full product? I have learnt from my preliminary that I will need multiple shots for my film which are to be taken from a variety of angles. This is so we have a large variety of shots that could be accessed and use different effect. Through the preliminary I have gain confidence in using the Final cut software and I feel that I will be to use this to my advantage when faced with editing my film. Through my preliminary I found it easy to get what I wanted when faced with working with people outside my group I was able to direct easily the footage. The concepts with the preliminary were useful but I don’t they will be relevant in my film as there isn’t ant direct talking scenes but a voice over. The only part which may get portrayed in my film is the match-on-action. I will use this when the victim in the introduction gets hit.
Conclusion When it came down to the final product I wasn’t overly happy with the final outcome. Through doing this I have found that I would of much preferred to work on my own and produce something that was entirely all my work. I felt that my initial ideas weren’t thought upon and if I were to produce my own two minute introduction then I feel that I could of done a better version. Although I was given a lot work to do in my group I felt that my ideas should been of been valued more. I wasn’t that happy with the final piece of music for the project either I felt as though it was rushed and not thought about. But overall I feel confident about it.
