Poverty remains a significant challenge in India, with approximately 260 million people living below the poverty line. This represents about 26% of the population. Poverty means lack of adequate income or resources for basic needs like food, shelter, water, and sanitation. Stories of Ram Saran and Lakha Singh illustrate the daily struggles of the poor, who often work long hours in low-paying jobs but still struggle to afford basic necessities. While the government has implemented various anti-poverty programs and policies, fully addressing issues of health, education, jobs, gender equality, and dignity for all remains a work in progress.
