Poverty is the deprivation of food , shelter, money and
clothing when people can’t satisfy their basic needs.
Poverty can be understood as simply as a lack of money
or more broadly in terms of barriers to everyday human life.
Poverty has various dimensions :-

• Absolute Poverty :-
A situation where individuals do not have access to
the basic requirements of life i.e. food, shelter,
clothing etc.
• Relative Poverty :-
A situation where individuals are excluded from
being able to take part in what are considered as the
normal, acceptable standards of living in a society.

The poverty threshold or poverty line is
the minimum level of income deemed
adequate in a particular country.
Determining the poverty line is usually
done by finding the total cost of all the
essential resources that an average human
consumes in one year.
